Where have you travelled?

I live in the UK and haven't really been anywhere. I have visited some areas here, and been on holiday to Euro disney, tenerife and spain as a kid. But that's it. As a single mum I just haven't had the funds to go away. There is always something else that is needed. Are my kids missing out? Do you regulary take your children abroad? Where have you been and would you reccomend it to others?

The US has a lot of nice areas to visit. I grew up in India and I'm very fond of travelling. I would say AZ, NM, Utah, Nevada....both for the desert landscape (Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon), cities (Las Vegas, Santa Fe), and ancient sites (Taos pueblo, Mesa Verde, Acoma, etc.) Santa Fe has excellent restaurants. I think the coast of Maine and parts of New England (rural Vermont and New Hampshire) are also nice areas. In the South, I think going to some of the civil rights memorials in Birmingham and Montogomery, Alabama are interesting places to go. In northern Louisiana, Natchitoches was very pretty with old French colonial charm. New Orleans is historically a great place unlike anywhere else in US -- not sure what it's like now, but I am sure the local economy could use the support. Places like Yellowstone, the Appalachian Trail, Great Smokey Mountains, the Continental Divide, etc. are beautiful. Highway 1 in California and some of the picturesque towns along the route (Carmel, Mendocino, etc.) NYC is awesome for a city. San Francisco, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Seattle, and LA are big cities worth the trip.

I lived for many years in South America (Colombia and Panama), it was many years ago, when I was a child. I appreciate to live abroad but I think that chidren shouldn't stay away from their home for too much time because then it's difficult to go back to their country. They can have many problems of reinsertion. It's better to bring them abroad when they are in their teens, so they can appreciate better what they see and what they do.
