My daughter will be 11 years old in a couple of days. She wants a cell phone and she don't know I bought her one. My mom said she's to young for a phone, but I don't think so she's mature for her age. She doesn't play with dolls anymore so what else do I get her. She has all the latest technology.

Now-a-days kids are very smart and clever and they are moving with the tecnology and moreover they learn mostly with their friends around them then from us. It is very glad to hear that your kid is too intelligent i wish her all the succeses and you are one you can justify what is good and what is bad for your daughter so it completely depends on you,but i agree with your mother and she is correct as theyare well experienced than we in parenting.

Why do parents insist children are 'mature for their age'?? She's 11, how mature can she be? My daughter will be 11 in 2 weeks, she is as mature as her 11 year old mind and body will allow her to be. Smart is a far cry from mature. But this is all beside the point. They have cell phones for kids that only call pre-programmed numbers. The phone part is not as important as the plan part. You could cause yourself problems if you're not careful. My 13 year old son took my phone on a field trip because they weren't getting back until late and he needed me to pick him up. The point is, the girls on the bus took it and took a bunch of pictures. Nothing bad, though they thought they deleted them. Ben wouldn't say anything, they are girls. The point of that short story is- it's not just your own kids that could mess up the good things. Go with your gut, nobody knows your kid better than you.
