My daughter really wants a cell phone and I bought her one for her birthday but she doesn't know yet. My mom says she's to young for a cell phone. She has all the latest technology in her room. Computer, Mp3 players, etc. She doesn't play with toys so what elese is there? Is mom right? Is she to young?

How old is your daughter? Personally I would nto give a mobile phone to a very young child and I would be very cautious about letting a child have a mobile phone without checking the costs involved too. If you feel your daughter is old enough for the responsibility of a phone then you should let her have the phone but make sure she is aware of the responsibilties too

She'll be eleven. Yes she is a very responsible child. I put her on a family plan with myself and get a detailed bill. We have discussed everything and she will only have her phone on weekends mostly.

Kinda hard to answer, how old is she? My boyfriend has a 13 yr old daughter, and her mom got her a cell phone, she only has use of it in evenings and weekends (free call time). However, my question is, what does a 13 yr old need a cell phone for? I could understand having one of the prepaid cell phones on hand, in case she is going somewhere and might need to call home, or for emergency use. But, to just have a cell phone to call or text her friends????? We have become such a technological society that kids today have forgotten what it's like to go out and play after school. My daughters got cell phones, when they could afford to pay the bill themselves.

Hi misste78. That depends on whether she understands the concept of money and the costs that will be involved with cell phone usage. At the age of 13 I gave my daughter a phone for her room. Not a separate phone line, mind you, just a phone. When she turned 15, we got her the cell phone. It didn't last very long though, especially after getting the first $400 phone bill. Yikes! ~:O She didn't get another one until she got a job and was able to find a plan that would fit her budget. :D While a cell phone for a child is convenient for parents reaching their child almost immediately, it quickly becomes a very convenient way for the children to contact all their friends too. Their urge to contact their friends eventually crosses over the times included in your plan. Texting can also be a costly option if you're not careful in selecting your plan.
