May 2007 and the Philippines will have another of its notorious electoral contests for Senators and Local Government Officials. Am I pissed-off because despite of all of these so-called elections my country is yet to recover from poverty?

uhmm.. i am pissed off too.. but the only person who can help our country is our own self. Blaming the Government officials couldnt help that much though it help them to be aware of their faults. I think the only solution is for us to get involve, We can help our country in our own simple way.. by working hard, tryin not to be late at work, and the other thing is the voters should vote wisely. Too bad im only 17 cant vote.. nways have a nice day Kabayan. God bless.

there was a debate contest held at my school last March. i joined and as the Opposition Leader in our team we had to discuss about "Showbiz personalities should be banned from participating in Politics". The Government side (our opponent then) favors BANNING. We on the Opposition OPPOSE BANNING. sweet. my argument was: "we're against banning not because we support showbiz personalities. we're against banning because everyone has the right to run for public office as long as their qualified. IT IS THEIR RIGHT, UNDER THE LAW." and they said: "our country is in such story state because of these showbiz candidates who run and get elected. more often than not they prove to be ineffective and do nothing" and what i said was: "no sir. our country is in such a sorry state because PEOPLE VOTE FOR THEM. people do the choosing, and they get the government they deserve." and for that, i won the best debater award. you're lucky you can't vote yet. you can't be held responsible for the bad government we have today. now, if more people like you with more reasonable minds will stand up and vote a good candidate and make him win - then that's a start. good day!

I totally agree with you. But right now there are so many trapos that have win in the local level again. It's good that Filipinos have already managed to become politically matured about elections. But as usual the elections is stil lthe same in the Maguindanao and ARMM place. MAssive vote buying and dagdag bawas.

I call it another losing benchmark date in our history. Perhaps we will just view it the way the late great inventor Thomas Edison viewed his discovery of the light bulb as he was asked by a reporter on what was his take on the 99 mistakes he made before he finally made it wherein Mr. Edison's answer was, it was not a mistake but but a 99 process of making the bulb. The only concern we would really be worried is, what if we have already done our discovery only to loose it? it would be far more than 99 ways now. But lets just keep our hopes high, perhaps somewhere someone in time, would really bring us up in the same glory as before or to a new glory.

I thinnk we cannot really blame the poverty to our officials because we are the ones who are voting for them. And now, I think Filipinos are already aware of the economy state. They are already trying their best to vote for what they think will help improve the country's economy. Right now, for what I can see on poll that people didn't just vote because they are POPULAR or being idolized but its because those people can be the ones who can POSSIBLE help the country recover.
