Oooo, oooo (my impersonation of Arnold Horshack), Alaska is hopefully our next one. Are you departing from Seattle or Vancouver? Are you going to get a chance to take any part of the inland glass train that Carnival started in Alaska a couple years back. I saw footage of the glass train on the Travel channel. I thought that was very ingenious of Carnival to expand inland.
Actually, my dream cruise is the South Pacific to Australia, New Zealand, and a few other ports. But, it's a 17 day cruise. And, that's seems like such a long time on a ship. We'll have to work up to that one.
I'd like to take the Panama trip, but that one is 10-13 days. Hubby and I find that regaining our land legs is fine after 5-7 day trips. But longer than that seems like a bit much.
I love the Western Caribbean trips. Especially out of Galveston. It's a smaller port, and easy to navigate.
Whatever you do, don't opt out of the full staff tip percentage. Hubby and I did that once with the intent to tip our porter higher to split amongst the staff that actually took care of us. BIG mistake! We got short-sheeted that night.
Oh and try to avoid drinking the ship's water. Bottled water, or soda is fine.

Thanks for the info. I already planned on doing the tip thing like you say. I don't know that I could handle a cruise for longer than 7 days either.
I don't know about the glass train. Sounds interesting but haven't heard of it and didn't see it on the list of excursions. I will check it out.
Leaving from Seattle. oh, I can't wait. As long as my daughters birth certificate gets back in time. Long story but passport is taking too long and they have her birth certificate. Had to order a new one. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Oh you are really lucky. That is one dream that I want to be realized - to be a cruise. I like to see different places. I love looking at beautiful sceneries and I love relaxation. I hope I can be on a cruise ship someday with my family.
Goodluck and have a great time in your travel. I hope to read more from your post and talk about how was it. Cheers!

I'd love to go on a cruise to Alaska. I've only been on one cruise, and it was to Greece and Italy. Pretty spectacular and the pricing wasn't bad (basically about $100/night); it was my first time in Greece and although I had been to Italy, I'd never been to Rome, which was fantastic. I am not a good sailor, however, so I am reluctant to go on another cruise, but with Alaska, they say it is one of the best ways to see the landscape and wildlife. How was your cruise to Alaska?

Have fun! I've never been either, but I'd love to go on one someday. I don't know exactly how relaxing it'd be for me, since DS is only 16 months, but I wouldn't dream of leaving him. I just wish that we had the money to do something like that. All our money goes toward our debts, and they never seem to go away. :(

I know what you mean about debt. Actually, my whole family is going. Me, my two kids, all 3 of my brothers, their wives, my nephew, my cousin (to be the babysitter) and my parents. My dad paid for the trip for us all. We just have to pay the other expenses (which are going to be enough). My youngest is 21 months so it will be a challenge. You are right though, I would never leave my kids behind. Until they are teens and I can't wait to get away from them. lol.

I've been on 2 cruises in my life. I LOVE it! Just be prepared to pack on some pounds from all the buffets on board! You'll find lots to do for everyone. Lots of activities, games, entertainment, etc. It's a great family vacation. Have fun! Oh ya...also, don't forget to bring a nice outfit cos' on the last day of the cruise, they usually have a dinner with the captain and most people will dress up for that. It's so much FUN!!!
