Answering machines - love or hate them??

I have to agree that answering machines are in a way indispensable because there are many times when even if you have a mobile/cell phone you may need to turn it off and there is always someone who may need to get in touch with you; not to mention the answering machines at home without which we would loose many important messages...
However, I sometimes feel I am only taking to machines whether I am calling a friend, a company, a customer service, bank or any other facility for that matter - people have been replaced with answering machines which, in my opinion, waste your time most of the time with silly instructions, which many times are useless and you still have to speak to an actual fresh and blood person who solve sthe problem in less than a minute.
Are you are frustarted with answering machine or have you grown used to and find it easy to deal with them??

I love them somtimes because I can just leave a quick message if the person is not there that I need to talk to. Now if I get them all the time then I can't stand them and just want them to go away.

While I admit that I have voicemail set up on my cell phone and my home phone.....I will rarely leave an actual message on someone else's machine.....and I get so frustrated with the "instructions" that you have to fight through on most business lines.....
You are absolutely right about a "real person" being able to "fix" the problem in a matter of minutes.....remember when you would just be placed on hold...after a secretary answered the phone....I think that our impatience was the driving force behind voicemail and answering machines.....we just do not want to wait for someone else to anser the phones..
Interesting topic, my friend. Have a blessed day!

The funny part is that after waiting for what seems like eternity on some company customer service phone lines, it is actually ahuman being that comes to the rescue now, if he or she would have answered in the first place it would save time and money not to mention disposition!!!
Thanks for participating Tina - always a pleasure to read your point of view.

Answering machines are a life saver for me and I couldn't do without one now, I use them to screen my calls and if I don't want to talk to someone then I can use the answering machine for this purpose to avoid them, if I've had a really long stressful day and I don't want to be interupted they are ideal. For some people who talk for hours, and I owe them a call I am glad that they have their answering machine on, saves a lot of time!

LOL - for all the points you mentioned answering machines are great and I fully agree with you - they are life savers many times.
While I fully understand their importance and am aware that they are needed in the busy and hectic lives we lead, I also get often frustrated when I simply cannot get past an answering machine especially when I call companies and/or am looking for some essetial customer service.
Thanks for participating -
