I am planning to apply for a credit card and I am still in doubt if it is beneficial to have one or not. Many people say that it is not advantageous by they have one. Some people say it is beneficial but I can't still figure out what are its benefits. Can you tell me the advantages and the disadvantages of having a credit card?

I definitely think it is good to have a credit card, as long as you don't abuse it. I always make sure I have at least one credit card with me in case of emergencies. That way if I ever run out of gas or something or if I got sick and needed something right away, I could get it even if I don't have any cash with me. My husband has even been able to use his credit card to make an emergency phone call home to me once on a pay phone when his cell phone wouldn't work, so I definitely think it's very useful. Of course, you have to make sure that you aren't getting yourself into lots of debt by using it a lot when you don't really need to, but as long as you're careful, it can help you build up your credit score by being responsible with it, which can be really important in the future. I have used my cards to build up really good credit, so I'm hoping that when I want to get a loan to buy a house or something in the future, hopefully having good credit will help me out a lot with that.

Thank you so much for the advice. I guess I am just afraid on how to use my credit card. Maybe it is a matter of discipline on how to use it.

No problem, I'm glad I could help! Yeah, I was a little nervous when I got my first credit card, but I just kept it in my wallet and pretended like it wasn't there so that I wouldn't use it unless it was an absolute emergency. That way I didn't have to worry about getting into debt or something. I think I probably only used it maybe once or twice during the first year or two that I had it! lol

credit cards are very handy. If you do not like to carry cash in your purse, you better use a credit card. The good thing abut credit cards is that you can always shop anywhere with it. You can even book your airlines tickets, pay for your hotel etc., etc.

Thanks for your response. But does credit cards lessen your bills or not? I am looking for an alternative on how to lessen my bills. Thank you so much!

Having a credit have both is advantages and disadvantages. Two of its benefits are extended purchasing power and it is good to use on emergency situations like hospital bills. It is a powerful tool when used wisely. Its disadvantage however lies in the wrong usage of the card. I have exprienced this one and I am glad I was able to repay my debt after three years. Now I have learned to use my card wisely. Never again will I max out my card.
