My younger brother has recently joined an insurance company and he got a precise training. He told me that the basic theme of their training was selling the ideas. They convince the people to pay for an intangible thing. How about you people? Do you go for idea buying or the things like that? What sort of idea or consultation was that? Was that effective? Please share!

Insurance is good. It can give you peace of mind knowing that if something happens you are covered.

We buy intangible things all the time!! Closing costs on a mortgage, that's buying the services of the banks, title companies, etc. Using a credit card - those finance fees are to pay for the service of someone managing your money for you, instead of carrying cash. Medical bills, health insurance - all of that is paying for a service, not a tangible thing that you buy. So we all buy intangible things...

What I believe that everybody is directly or indirectly involved in this. If your go for the consultant for a particular disease and seek his opinion, its just like the buying his words. Students, while going for coaching centre are paying the fees for the expertise of teacher utilized and so on. So intangible shopping is always there.

Well I guess that makes sense. You are not really buying insurance, you are buying peace of mind. It must be very hard to sell something that the person couldn't touch or see. I am always on my guard when someone comes across as too slick or salemanlike. I wish your brother luck in his new job!
