Why do people scream at you if you don't speak their language?

Isn't it funny how when people are speaking to someone who doesn't speak your language well, they tend to scream at them like they not only have trouble with the language but they're deaf too! LOL I cracked up the other day when a friend of mine was screaming at this guy who was evidently Hispanic and spoke broken English. When we left I looked at her and went "Um, do you realize he was Hispanic, not deaf?" She cracked up and went "Oh my God, was I one of those idiots that screamed?" LOL

I really don't know. As far as I know! I have not been guilty of that because I know how frustrated I used to feel in a foreign country and the people didn't understand me and then they yelled at me..it did not help it me feel more nervous and dumber.

That’s funny and so true- Like screaming is going to help- It also happens to me on the cell phone- When the phone is cutting out and I’m chatting- I find myself yelling into the phone- Then usually I get why are you yelling- When it comes through and isn’t breaking up you are hurting my ear- LOL.. I think we just think yelling and screaming helps with any kind of communication breakdown! Whether it be language problems or cutting out.

I have seen this on TV and have always wondered if I do this also. Evidently when we speak slow like they do, we also speak loudly. We assume. Just like we do with older persons. Not all of them have hearing problems.
