Will you often drive your employees to work overtime?

Many bosses always want to hire less employees who can finish more and more work. Most employers are crazy at work, maybe the most happiness thing is just the work. They want the staff are the same, too. Frankly, if you were a employer, would you often ask your staff to work overtime?

I would not want overtime to be mandatory, no. If I had a business and something needed to be completed quickly, than yes I would ask my employees to work overtime. But only in rare instances. The thing is, I believe employers need to realize that employees have a life outside of their jobs. Many have families and activities they need to attend to. I would only ask overtime of my employees in a case of emergency. And even then, I would understand if an employee could not due to some pressing family duty or other important aspect in their life.

No matter what, it sounds that you will be a good boss. As many bosses tend to ask their employees work overtime frequently without paid.

if i could be an employer, if overtimes are badly needed then i would have my employees have it. but ofcourse they must be paid and with only small amount of time. except if they also would like to have it on saturdays. i would first ask for their idea about it. if somethings must be finished as soo as possible then i would ask them what we can do about it to have it done before the deadline. then if they are into overtime, then that would be a good idea as well. what is important you pay them well and also ask for their ideas to have a more good and productive employees for you. jhelai

Hi Youless, I would want them to stay however long it took to get the job done. Employers hire people to get orders filled and when the orders not filled, employees have to stay. The company I work for has a mandatory overtime policy because we need to work overtime sometimes. Everyday we get orders and they need to be loaded in a trailer before we can go home. If not we wont have our jobs for very long. Take care, Terry

Thanks for your response. Here in the factories the workers work so hard everyday. They don't even have a day off but just work until night. I am sad for them.
