How do I get out of this "funk" and get energized again?

With the increase of pain lately I've found that I'm just not with it as much as I'd like to be. I'm going to be talking to the pain specialist about changing my prescriptions for now but other then med changes what do you do to pull yourself out of a funk?

I know that pain in and of itself can cause huge changes in a person's mood and energy levels. Add to that the effects ( not necessarily felt physically) of the medications and you really are apt to be feeling out of sorts and perhaps down. Blood sugars alone can dip and rise throughout the day and these changes can really affect our ability to logically assess our mental situations...I think the "energization" ( how do you like that word?) will come when through meditation, prayer, yoga or whatever you do to increase your body awareness and your realizaton of the power your mind has over this pain. We are so blessed in this life and have such a wonderful body of knowledge to draw from we sometimes just forget that we are the power that God made us and we can use that to our advantage. It definitely can be a struggle...and is often all encompassing...but those are the times we need to retreat to meditation/prayer and reconnect with that higher power that is there to guide us through the pain and depression like feelings. I have found lately that I am reconnecting with my energy and spirit with daily meditation and prayer. It doesnt' take me long..just a very quiet spot and my self affirmations and my open dialoge with God...sometimes it's 10 minutes sometimes it's 30...but when I'm done, I can feel that inner strength that was always there but I was ignoring...
This may all sound silly to you..but you ask what I do...and this is it...during my affirmations I remind myself of all I have and all I could lose..of all of the possibilities that still exist for me and of the absolutely awesome power of God and the power he has given to me to take me through my journey!~!! Hope it gets better soon... God Bless You!!!

That’s a tough one- I try to put myself in a happy environment- Do things you enjoy. Talk with happy, upbeat people. Laugh! Laughing always brings me out of a funk- I have one friend who sends me at least 5 to 10 jokes daily on e-mail. I put them in a joke folder and when I’m in a funk I open it and read them- Laughing is a great stress reliever and brings up your energy level. Get outside! I find that if I’m cooped up all day inside I get in a funk- Go outside – fresh air, take a walk, play with your kids, etc. Should bring you out of a funk! The medicine change should help also. Good luck getting out of that funk!

I just try and push myself to do things around the house.
Once I have started to push myself I usually get engergized and do other things.
I just have to get up and do things even I really don't want to.

I understand pain very well. Somedays I try to avoid meds just to stay awake, but I suffer. My doctor says pain itself is exhausting.
Lately I have tried to read more, and sometimes I just resign myself to sitting with my ice bag and watching TV to change my mind. It makes me mad that I used to be more active. I used to be able to walk long distances which is what I did for exercise.
Hugs, girl. Don't ever feel alone. I understand.

You do sound like me. I avoid taking the meds for a couple of reasons... first I'm one of those weird people that has this idea that "natural is best" and that doesn't work so well when you're truly suffering from real medical pain. LOL Secondly, I have this horrible fear of becoming "addicted". Probably an unreal fear considering how in tune I am with the ability for it to happen and my fear of it but I just really do get a little freaky about it.
Thanks for the great response and the ideas. I actually seem to be having a run of good days... 2 in a row now. So perhaps those couple good days will help! I even got out and about a bit today with my sister!!!!

Getting out helps a lot. I have gotten past the idea that people stare at my cane or my wheelchair. I still get mad at people who have no idea how to be polite in the presence of a handicapped person.
A good friend of mine has MS, and was diagnosed a few years ago. The key for her is knowing when to be calm and slow instead of rushing around. Sometimes I think that God is calling us to slow down and live so we can have more better days and enjoy the life He has given us.

I get mad. Then I clean. The 'funk' you are talking about is well known to me. All to well. Are you on an anti depressant? Well anyways, I make myself get mad (at myself)(or the MS). Then I use that energy to clean what ever. Then the 'funk' is usually gone for me. I hope you're feeling better soon.

Im very sorry to hear it. I just recalled a quite good book by Maria Treben, Health Through God's Pharmacy (English Edition), or is it Health from God's Garden: Herbal Remedies for Glowing Health and Well-Being, both available in English at Amazon.com yet, try http://tinyurl.com/2oxpdc It's the right Amazon link, I just had to make it tiny because it was 2 km long.
She has there many good advices against many serious diseases, incl. MS. Sometimes it seems she is a bit 'overflowing' so to say but you should just ignore it. Her recepies do really work, at least the ones I tried. Hopefully you'll find there something for you also. At first I thought I should translate the recepies for you but luckily I discovered that somebody has this work done already for me LOL!
