I woke up this morning with severe muscle spasms in my right calf.... so bad that I could see the muscles twist! have you ever gotten them? what could be causing them? I need to know because if they are going to start AGAIN I'm in for ALOT of pain... I used to get them every night at about 3:00am and then they went away... and the hurt sooo bad

OH my God those calf cramps r so so so much painful i have them and i always wake up screaming in night begging my husband to rub my calf or leg and then after a while i feel relieved. It usually happened when i was pregnant,I think some magnesium deficiency causes those cramps then i concern my doctor and she prescribe me some multi vitamins which helped me a lot...But yeah those cramps are horrible and it hurts so bad.

I know how you feel i get them also ,if you cant eat bannas than you can take vitamin E it helps also when you get a cramp try to remember to pull your toes up toward your belly it will release the cramp immidatly. i hope this helps there is nothing worse than wakeing up with such pain in the middle of the night, also make sure to drink plenty of water. Leg cramps are a potassiam defiency

Woah, that sounds pretty severe and painful. Some thing that might help might be taking a warm bath before bed and stretching your calf muscles? Do you excerise? Are you sure to stretch before and after working out? Another thing that can cause muscle cramping is dehydration. Are you drinking enough water/liquids? Maybe you need to drink some extra before bed, or keep water with you are night. The final think I can think of, is for me...I sometimes get calf cramps around that time of the month. To combat them I wuld just try to stretch and rehydrate. I also used an over the counter pain relevier like Advil, or Alleve. I hope you are feeling better soon.

I can't take a bath before bed cuz it wakes me up and yes I need to drink more water and more potassium

I've had them in the past but not for a few years, thank goodness as you are right it is very painful when it happens. I have found a great site with lots of advice on why it happens and how to stop it, I hope this helps. http://www.patient.co.uk/showdoc/23068794/

I have heard the muscle cramps can be caused by a potassium defecency. try eating a banana or two every day and see if that helps.
