Posting pictures of people online without consent

School's solicit parents’ permission to post photos of children on the internet all the time. Just recently students were suspended from a school for posting photos of students and teachers on MySpace without students and teachers permission. Because the students did not have parental permission, it could pose a liability issue.
My opinion is that parents should have the right to say if they do or do not want their children's photos posted on the internet. I, as a parent, do not post any photos of my children on the internet and I certainly do not give permission for my children's photos to be posted on the internet.
According to an article I read written by a copyright attorney it said "You may need permission to photograph people due to state laws giving individuals privacy and publicity rights."
"Commercial photographers avoid right of publicity/privacy lawsuits by obtaining photographic releases from people shown in their pictures."
Professional photographers obtain permission from their models. Why? Because people have the right not to have their photos posted on the internet.
What are your thoughts about photos being published online without ones knowledge or permission.

Without permission is WRONG. People are entitled to privacy and you don't just go posting pictures of people without their knowledge or parents knowledge. That being said, I post pics of my kids. Maybe I am too trusting. When the school sends home those consent forms, I always agree to have their pictures online, but they have a box where you can check to leave out the address, phone, name, ect which I always check. I can't imagine anyone wanting their childs name and address posted with the picture-that's just scary.

I would be totally irate if someone posted my daughters picture on the the net. I have a bunch of photo's that I want to put on the net but I am going through them to make sure they are just senic photo's and nobody is in them or of them.

Hmm. Maybe I am not knowledgable abou this subject. Have there been problem assosiated with normal pictures of children on the interenet? I mean with no contact inormation? I do put picutures up but didn't realize that some people might take offense to it. I just like to show off my kids.

Sorry... I guess it would depend on the website. If the neither the name nor location was listed I wouldn't be too worried... Do you know of someone who has had a problem resulting from pictures being posted withoug permission?
