Continue the thought a little. Cover the roads with an awning that could supply power to the electic cars and now you've reduced our oil dependancy and pollution. Who says you don't learn anything at the circus.

The awning would also improve visibility, allow for easier lighting and prevent wet road conditions.

Cars could possibly be made out of durable plastic, and a lot of them are being made with plastic or rubber bumpers, etc. I once not long ago backed into a light pole guide wire, what happened, I cut the rubber bumper, sliced it pretty good. I went to the car mechanic, I said why do cars have paper bumpers, he said they are rubber, and kinda assured me he could fix it, but I'd never seen a plastic or rubber bumper before. Now you are all going to laugh at my driving a car, but believe me I am a good driver. lol

In 1990 I was in correspondence with the then department of Transport inquiring whether a crushable foam layer could be made compulsory fitment on the bonnets of all new cars. This would have significantly reduced injuries at low speed accidents with pedestrians. The answer I received was that there was too mauch oposition form the car manufacturers all the best urban
