I had some relatives in the USA who were Mormons. They seemed pretty normal. It wasn't until recently that I read up on the religion. Now I question their sanity but they are still nice people. It does seem a bit far fetched a story to me but I am a hard sell since I am an Athiest.

Well, it is a soft spot with me and my family. I was baptized Mormon, and then studied alternative theories in religion, (you know, cause I want to believe in something out there) However, on YouTube, they had a documentary with Archaeologists who have claimed that they have never even heard of the sites proclaimed in the Book of Mormon. so, there is no proof. and, although it is not my reason for leaving, I am ashamed of my family for tossing their brains out, on this matter. I guess that 10% tithing goes further than you think!

I know, it's sad but true. I am glad you were able to find out the truth and get out of there. It's very frustrating for me to see all these people get taken advantage of by the LDS church. I do my best to explain to Mormons that there's no archaeological evidence that any of these places their BoM speaks of ever existed, and that they're being taken for a ride.

well, what really gets me, if you call a Mormon Pagan, they are actually offended. Truth is, you can be Pagan, and believe what you will. Pagan simply means the belief in more than one GOD, which a Mormon does.

There is no "for sure" evidence to support any religion. I don't see why Mormonism seems so far fetched to a lot of people. We're supposed to believe that God sent messengers to share his word with the world back in Biblical times but then what? Did he forget about us for the past 2000 years? I don't think so. Why is it so absurd to think that Joseph Smith was telling the truth? We believe Noah was instructed to build an ark, we believe Jonah was swallowed by a friendly whale. People were living here already when the "New World" was discovered. There is no biblical explanation for that. I wasn't baptised because my family left the church when I was just a baby so I'm sure you know more about it than I do but I believe that common sense leans toward it being true...or at least just as true as the Old and New Testament. Think about it, in reality the Christian Bible encompasses two religions, the Old Testament is Jewish, the New Testament is Christian. Perhaps it was supposed to be a 3 part book with Joseph Smith contributing the third part to introduce the 2nd "new testament". I think it's really a shame that people wouldn't even give it a chance...but then again people didn't believe Jesus either.

Well, this could be an interesting topic, because here is the claim. one fact, is that Archaeologists agree that these Mormon cities they claimed existed way back when, never did. there is also a claim that the Urm and thummin, an instrument Joseph Smith used, to translate the plates was a chocolate colored rock, in a hat he used to peer in. this is called scrying, or sorcery. now, what does the bible say about sorcery? (HMMMM!) actually, since Mormonism is one of the fastest growing religions out there, it has become a threat to the true nature of GOD. BUT- you have to already know GOD, or at least understand him, to understand these things. at least when the bible talks about Jerusalem, there is a Jerusalem. In the book of mormon, they talk about a town called "bountiful" which was in the region, yet Archealogists saythat this city never existed. the Bible accounts for it's archeology. the Book of Mormon does not, and even deviates from the bible. Joseph Smith even boasted in the pearl of great price, that he was either speaking the word of GOD, or the cunningest liar of mankind. I'd have to agree with the latter. despite evidence, and biblical claim, the Mormon church still weeds out black people from the priesthood, and treats women as second rate citizens as well. It is no wonder why so many people who seek the truth, don't like the Mormon church. It isn't any different than your typical cult of doomsdayers.

There's no evidence to support any religion's claims. If there was, then we would all have one religion that we knew to be true. I agree that Joseph Smith's claims are ridiculous, but so is the concept that Noah built an ark that contained two of every animal, no matter how big or how small and managed to sail for 40 days and 40 nights without any of the animals eating any of the others and there was no build-up of feces and the right type of food for every animal was in abundance. That's one heck of a ship. People believe what they want to believe, no matter how preposterous, because it makes them feel better. None of us really know what happens after we die, so we choose a religion that makes our lives have some sense of meaning and makes us feel that by behaving a certain way in our lives, we'll be rewarded in some fashion at the end of it.

Thanks ;). Its so true. If u look at every religion. U will find at least something that sound completelt rediculous. But there is something that all humans need that religion gives us. Thats hope and a reason to be here and keep living our lives.
