voting: do we REALLY have power???

I know that many of us wholeheartedly subscribe 2 the idea that voting is how u change things, and get things your way. But, how much "power" does your vote REALLY have? Whether it's a presidential election, or something like a vote 4 your favorite American Idol singer, when the results are read, and they give us percentage points, we really have no way of knowing if the numbers are accurate at all, or simply made up al2-gether! I say that, unless u're in a room with people, and everyone writes their vote 4 something on a piece of paper, a sign, whatever, and everyone holds up their "cards", so that everyone can c 4 themselves who voted 4 who, u can NEVER verify the validity of ANY voting system! I quite often think we are just pacified into THINKING we have the power, when in reality, there's a very HIGH possibility that ALOT of things are "fixed"! Especially with something like American Idol, which is 1st and 4-most, a TV show, so the main goal is 2 get ratings, NOT 2 be upstanding! People could be strategically voted off, at certain times, 2 stir up controversy, which keeps us talking, and WATCHING, the most important thing! So, while most may have faith in voting, in general, no matter WHAT it is, unless u c ALL the votes with your own 2 eyes, how can u REALLY be sure that it's legitimate?

When you speak of American Idle as apposed to politics you are talking about two different things here. I think when voting in elections your vote really does make a difference.

Yes, they're 2 different things, but I'm speaking of just the subject of voting, period! I just don't believe that we have all the "power" that we THINK we have! I appreciate your response though.

No,we dont cuz i believe those in power will always have their way to power. In Nigeria for instance, forget it.There is nothing like free and fair elections which i think its due to greed. Many Nigerians also support it cause they are also being payed to rig such elections. It is totally corrupt.

That's what I think 2! ALL voting systems are CORRUPT! Unless u can actually c ALL of the votes with your own eyes, u have NO WAY of knowing the TRUTH of the results! Great post!

I think you can see the votes at your local council or something like that. I was told that the records are available for public viewing after the election is determined. I dont think it even costs anything to see. The scariest part is your name and address and the party you voted for is recorded so anyone that votes had their address publically available.
