3 month pap smear!

United States

Well today I went for my second 3 month pap smear recheck. Back in September I went for my annual one and it came back with precancerous cells on it and so I had to undergo a Leep procedure to have them removed. Since then I have had to go back every three months for a recheck. If any of my rechecks come back bad then I will have to undergo a hestorectomy. I am hoping I don't have to have one seeing as I am only 28 years old. But if it comes back good than I can go to having my pap rechecked every six months for the next two years. Then after that I will be back on track to only once a year. Well the reason I am sharing this with you is to ask that you keep me in your prayers that my results come back good. I should have the results in about a week and will keep everyone posted as to how things are going. Thanks to everyone for letting me share this with you.

Did you come back positive for HPV? I only ask because I know someone that had to go through this as well and that's what they had to do for that reason. I am sorry to hear that you have to deal with a situation like this. I know that it can be scarey for anyone. However, I am sure that your results will yeild clean. The leap procedure is a very good one that usually gets all of the growth.

Yes I came back positive for the HPV. How my doctor explained it to me. There are two different kinds of HPV. A good one (yeah I laughed too when the doctor said that) that does not cause cancer and a bad one that causes cancer. Well guess what. I got the bad kind. The thing is I am never in clear anymore. If I go ten years with negative paps then all of a sudden I get one that comes back positive again. I will have to have the surgery. The doctor basicly said that if I get one more bad pap (in my lifetime) I will have to have the surgery. So I will go through stress every time it gets close to that time every year.

Thank you so much for the support. I will be glad once I get the results because I am tired of the sleepless nights and stress that I have been under since this all started back in September. At least if these come back good my stress level will go down some because I won't have to go back for six months instead of three.

Best of luck speedy. It is always hard to wait for results to come back especially when they might be bad ones. My thoughts are with you.

Speedy, First I am sorry that you are having to go through this bit the great news is that you are staying on top of it!! Continuing the regular checkups with your physician is very smart...please continue this, my friend. I will keep you in my prayers that your test result will be negative and there will be no further discussion of hysterectomies....you are too young; but your health must come first!! Catching the cells in precancerous stages is a good thing...they do not reproduce as quickly, nor with the same damage level....I am glad they caught it early....keeping those uncomfortable appointments can be life-saving. Please do keep us updated....I know that this is kind of scary...you have friends here....
