Planning for the future

How does one get things done? How does one makes a dream a reality or carry a plan through completion? Many of us seem to have unrealized goals or incomplete plans and many of us face tasks that appear overwhelming, even impossible to achieve. This is true not only individuals, but of companies and even countries. History is filled with failed projects..so how will you plan for the future?

being a uni student, I always have to plan for the future in order to get things done - I am capable of long term plans as well as short-term plans - but i never really write these things down - mostly i just plan them in my head while trying to get to sleep in order to keep myself from worrying about them too much. Here's how my planning goes - I first think about what I want to achieve - what are my results going to be. So basically I take an overall picture of a project and then I start to split it into sections - I draw or write up a rough plan after I've thought about it. The next day, ideas start to come and I have to note all these down or remember them - usually if i have time i would jump straight into it or I would denote a time during the week to do whichever section - then I have a finishing date as well - so I gotta really plan it so that I can finish on time. I know its quite a difficult task at first especially if you are trying to do a project that may seem impossible - the first and best thing to do would be to jump straight into it - the more you focus on it - the more you will be able to come up with ideas and understand it.
