Everyone, light or dark-skinned, can be adversely affected by ultraviolet rays. However, there are certain pre-indictors that may make you more susceptible. You may be at particular risk if you have light hair or eye color work outdoors participate in outdoor sports or gardening on a regular basis have several moles or those with irregular shape or color have a family member who has had skin cancer have had a serious sunburn before the age of 18

I am asian and have never been burnt and have been told that I have a 10% less chance of developing skin cancer. I still put on sunscreen whenever i am going to play sports in the summer or go outside during the middle of the day. I just cannot take the risk. Being in Australia, where the ozone hole cuts just where we live - I am very surprised in the lack of people using sunscreen - many of my caucasion - white skinned friends don't use sunscreen - they ask me if I have sensitive skin because I always put on sunscreen when I am going to play sports. I take my precautions because it is not about being burnt - it is the buildup factor of radiation in your skin which gives you a chance of developing skin cancer.
