This is a question for New York'ers. Why is New York called the "Big Apple"

I have often wondered that too because I have no idea why and I have lived in New York state all my life. But I did a little research and you may find your answer in one of these two sites.

I think its because they have a lot of good apples up in upstate New York! New York City doesn't have anything to do with an apple but... I'm from Harlem a.k.a. the rotten part of the apple! -MoneyBagz
