Do you write to your elected officials and expect a reponse?

Every once in a while, I will write to my elected officials. Who I write to will depend on the issue. Sometimes I will write to an elected official who doesn't represent my District because I feel that person will either be the most responsive or that person is the leading debater on that issue. I don't expect, and don't mind too much when officials who are out of my voting District do not respond, but I get irked when someone who is supposed to represent me does not. I think it reflects poorly on them because it implies they don't care, especially at a time when many voters feel their elected officials are out of touch with the voters. I understand they receive a lot of constituent communication, but they all have staffs to deal with it. Although I will not decide on who to vote for on a letter being answered or not, I do consider responsiveness to the constituents as a factor. That might not make a difference in State and Federal races, but for local races which are non partisan and community oriented, this consideration may be the tie-breaker I use. Does anybody else write to their elected officials, and if you do, do you expect a response. Does it irk you if you do not?

I have written to them occasionally. I do expect a response, although I do not always get one. I have gotten responses from them several times though, even if it was not the response I was hoping for. It does bother me when they cannot be troubled to answer my letter. It makes me wonder sometimes whether they even bothered to read it.
