Mothers And Their Sense Of Humor-----------Elbow Grease?

I am smiling as I think of a trick my mom played on my sister. Yes, I am still on memory lane. They are good memories. We were cleaning the kitchen and my sister was complaining that there ought to be some real good cleanser that would clean with out too much work on her part. My mom looked at her and mentioned that there was. When my sister asked her what it was my mom told her it was called, Elbow Grease, I don't know how many of you know what that is but you sure can't buy it on a shelf. Anyway my sister asked mom for the money to buy some and my mom just smiled at her and gave her some money. As my sister went down to the store my mom called the store and talked to one of the workers that she knew real well and told her just to play along. So my sister was telling me later that the workers were real cooperative and told her what aisle to find it on and of course she couldn't find it where they said. So when she came up to the front they said that they must have sold out of it since it was such a good cleanser. When my sister came back to the house I don't know how mom kept a straight face but when my sister told her they were sold out of it my mom told her that there was no way they could have been because each one of them had it with them as well as herself, my sister and I. Talk about my sister and I have to admit I thought mom had lost it. Then she walked over to my sister and pointed at her elbow and said to put a little umpff in her cleaning and she would have elbow grease. She cracked up laughing as she walked away. My sister and I just looked at each other and shook our heads. My mother the clown. She was doing things like this all the time. We had to stay on her toes since we didn't know what kind of joke she was going to do next. My mom the love of my life.

Your mom has/had a humouros way of teaching a lesson. My mom isn't a jokester but she's taught me and my siblings a lot over the years. I thank God for her because all 6 of her children are productive adults.

Yes mom had her own unique way of getting her point across and I always have remembered because of the way she taught us lessons of life. She is still alive today but her health is not good at all.

That is such a great story. I sounds like your mom had a great sense of humor and didn't take life too seriously but enjoyed a good joke! Thanks for sharing!

She is German and Irish and when she started in what we kids called her jokester mood we kids would kid her and she would tell us that that was the Irish blood taking over. She would sing a lot and the one song that drove my dad crazy is when she would be upset with him and they had an argument she would go upstairs and the next thing heard was her singing, If I Had The Wings Of A Angel Over These Prison Walls I Would Fly. She said dad would hollar up the stairs that he knew she was upset but did she have to sing about it. My dad has been passed away a lot of years now but I love it when mom gets to talking about when her and dad were younger.

I know about these kind of tricks. We had a long hardwood hallway in our house and my brother and I had rags (as dusters) tied around our sneakers and thought we were have such a great time playing slides on the floor. We never knew until months later that we were polishing the floor!

That was funny. My mom was funny at times but nothing like yours..lol..When we would bug her and say mom over and over, she would say call your big toe mom and you'll have one of your own. I used to get so mad. I don't think that saying even makes any sense but she said it all the time.

I think that is funny. Mom's have their own way of making their point.
