I know a couple that got a home and they wanted to use the backyard garden. After speaking with the nabors they were informed that the pet dog had used it for a toilet for the winter. I heard the ground could be treated with garden lime,cow/horse manure(but thouse stink lol) Does anyone else have some ideas and does anyone know how long it will take before the ground is safe to plant in again. bb smiles

I would think that rains would wash it away. Perhaps watering the backyard extensively might wash it away or at least dilute what's there. If they visibably see signs of doggy doo, they can just remove it. A dirty job I know, especailly when it was some one elses dog. BUt the most effective way to get rid of it. If they are planting flowers or bushes, it won't do any harm. If they want vegetables, the may need to till the soil or remove that area and replace it will new topsoil. Good luck.

I didn't even think about the snow being that I live in the south. There are some garden centers and landscapers that can test for toxicity in the soil. Perhaps they can contact one of them and have the lawn tested.

Hey thanks I think their afraid of the toxins that come from the doggy doo.I guess there was alot that soaked into the ground from the melting of snow. They wanted to plant vegies but I guess theyll have to wait when I find out how long it is until the soil is purified I'll post it.

I vah\guely remember reading that sprinkling cayenne on the soil wards off dogs...covers up their scent. I haven't tried it, but hopefully it'll work. Fresh manure is quite acidic so it's best to remove it asap. Maybe you could put up a decorative fence around your perimeter also, just to be sure.
