Does the word "training" bother you when we talk about our children, like sleep training, potty training, training about this and that? It does for me, I always think of animals for some reason, or I think of this site http://www.nogreaterjoy.org/index.php?id=child-training and that site just disturbs me on so many levels. How about you, what word do you use instead? I always say learning or teach.

I don't use the word training when we're talking about teaching or showing something to our lo. I don't like that word, it makes me think of animals too, and my baby as like yours is NOT an animal.
The only time I may have used that word is when i've spoken about 'potty training'. I guess it's a (bad)habit.

The only time I refer to training my daughter is when talking about potty training. Other than that I teach her to do other things. Like when she was learning to walk and learning to crawl. And right now I'm trying to teach her how to talk. I agree that training kind of sounds like we are referring to an animal. I'm not trying to "train" my daughter to do anything. I am teaching her. Maybe it's all the same thing but I agree it just sounds better.

Tis a similar process for survival in animals. We train our children to be better adults over time. To make the world a better place. To allow them to function in society on their own. Training occurs in many ways and I hope you take your job seriously so we can look forward to your children becoming adults. Good luck.

I have never really seen any problem with it. Training means to teach or instruct. I teach and instruct my child. Yeah, you train a dog to use the leash. But you also TEACH your dog new tricks. So I don't see how train is a worse word for it...In my opinion it's just another word that means the same thing. It would be different if it was somehow supposed to convey a negative feeling. But I really don't think it is.

I completely agree...I do not train my child to do anything.......I teach him or we learn together ....I also get the picture of "training" my dog, "training" my horse.....not an image of my children....
They "train" our military. We "teach".....or that is my opinion.
