Do you have any "Drive In" movies left in your town?

I loved going to the drive in when I was growing up. My best friend's family owned the drive in so I was a frequent visitor! It was closed when I was in junior high. There is not a drive in near to the town in which I now live. I seriously feel that opening a drive in could be a nice little side business for someone with the money to invest. It would have a 'something new' for the teens who have never been to one and so nostalgic for those of us who have!

It might be a nice "come back" thing, especially for those with bit of nostalgia desire. I'm not sure how good it would be financially though with the ease of people seeing movies at home now.

Our town does not have drive in movies, but during the summer, at our baseball field, we have a field film every other week. That last one my kids and I went to see was shrek. The films are not new movies, but it is sooo much fun before and during the film. The town comes around selling light sticks and the kids play until dark. Then the film starts. So much fun for everyone.

We have 1 that is fairly close to our town. It is about a half an hour away. My son 14, was amazed. He really enjoyed it.

There are so many kids now in days that have never been to one! It's kind of a lost art now I guess.

We used to have one just down the street but it's been torn down :(. A Home Depot is now there. The closest one around is over an hour drive to it. I wish we had one close by again. I loved going to the drive in. It was so much more fun then going to a normal theater. I can't figure out why they got rid of them. They were a great way for a family to go to the movies.

Heheh yeah you had to have the off as well :) But it was a lot of fun. I even liked them as an adult without kids. Not having to worry about someone sitting in front of you and blocking your way. Not having to worry about missing the movie as you got snacks. Things like that.

None left here, I remember having to park next to a pole and hang the speaker onto your car window. Wow, we are going back a long time ago.

LOL... I remember going to the drive in with my oldest daughter and being flabberghasted that they tuned it in on the radio!!!! There was just something wrong about not having to fumble with the speaker and remember to take it off the window before you whipped out of the movie! LOL

No, I wish they had one around here. We never get to go out to the movies since we don't know anyone well enough to babysit our son, and we're not those type of people that bring children into movie theatres. I know my son would just nap if we went to a drive thru, that'd be great for us to finally watch a movie that's not already out on dvd!

We do have one that is about a 20-30 minute drive from us. Every year it goes up for sale. Every year it opens again. My fear is that someone will grab up the property and use it for something else. I love going to the drive-ins. They aren't what they used to be when I was a child. But, they still are fun to have around.

There is actually a Drive-In around the corner from my house, although I haven't been there in many years. The place looks kind of run down, and it never seems to be busy, even during the height of the summer season. I guess that we all prefer to watch DVD's at home in the air-conditioned house!

We have 2..yes count them 2 drive-ins within about 5 miles..one is maybe 2 miles away. It is unfortunate but the drive-in seems to be a dying part of Americana. My son, when he lived here used to love them...The Sandlot and Dadd Day Care were just a few of the movies I saw with him..I have no idea which movies he took the girls to see..and if they actually watched them.
I guess considering where I live has little to do...that i should be happy we still have drive-ins.

We have 1 left, however I have heard that someone is trying to get this one closed down also. I think that drive-ins for family's on a tight budget are a great and cheap entertainment. You get to see 2 movies here and you can bring your own food in so not spending a whole lot. Plus if your kids are making noise in the car it's not as disruptive as being in a theater.
The one that's left here is only about 6 minutes from me, so I consider it to be quite close and am looking forward to getting over there this summer. I hope that it doesn't get closed. :)

There is one left within 1 hour of us..it's amazing to see them get torn down right and left..but today's families have home video rentals and so many movies on Cable and it's so inexpensive to buy the movies you want to watch..I guess I can see with all those options how easy it would be to never want to go sit in a car and watch a movie!!!! LOL ..It was a big deal when I was a kid...and my kids loved them..we'd put them in their pajamas and off we'd go..it didn't require a babysitter and was relatively cheap...definitely not the sound quality you get today...then there was the drive in movie craze BEFORE marriage...that was a whole different story...if memory serves me, nobody really cared about the movie too much!!! LOL...now I was a good girl...and I only went to see the movie....and believe me my father wanted to know every detail of that movie!!!!LOL

I'm sure it's just a tough thing to keep afloat anymore. As you said, with DVDs and home movies so easy to get and quick to come out plus all the cinemas now are so much more modern with reclining seats, stadium style seating and surround sound. Not to mention there are a lot fewer mosquitoes in the theaters then in the drive-in! LOL But I do miss them.

Growing up in Texas we used to go to drive in movies all the time, the weather is always warm and cool in the evenings so it makes it nice, they had all been torn down until I heard recently they just built one, have yet to try it but can't wait to go again.

Yes we do- well not in our town, but we have 2 within 20 minutes of here. We go to the drive-in alot. We went last Friday for the first time this year. I love these. It costs $7 adult and $2 for kids. They have a mini-golf, pizza place, restaurant, stage (kids activities) and playgrounds at our favorite drive-in. We always go early and get pizza-- we take our own snacks. Oh it's a riot- they have 2 screens- One shows adult movies (R) and the other is usually geared towards kids (G, PG, pG13) both show 2 movies a night. I love drive-ins.

We just moved to this area about 8 months ago. I do know, there is one about an hour away.
We went and saw "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "Stealth" a while back. Both, I thought was very good.
I love the Drive In. So much more freedom than watching it in the theater.

We have never had drive in movies here in Britain. Not that I know of anyway. I have seen drive in movies on some tv programmes and films. I have often thought that it owuld be very cool to have them. I can really see how that could be fun! It must be so cool to just drive up and watch the film. I wish that we did have them.
