Should I quit my job?

I made my mind to quit my job after almost 4 yrs. I never thought that I would say the word. My boss had been very kind to me but somebody cheat him and he went bankrupt now but he just won't admit it. He keeps asking me now what can we do as I'm entitled as the marketing manager recently. I don't really know what to do with no capital to invest. I feel responsible for not being able to create any profit for the company. That's why I thought I should quit, I don't want to get any salary for doing nothing. I told my boss that I'll remain helpful for him, just say that I'm a freelance staff. I quit because I want to help him to cut out the unnecessary expenses. The company almost can't pay the staffs salary this month. I was sorry but it's the best thing that I do at least for now. I thought that his way of thinking won't let him be able to work with anybody. In my experience of working in this company I learn almost nothing about sales and marketing. I never really thought that I have a real job here. My friends also said so. I'm not confident to tell an interviewer if I was a Marketing Manager before because I don't have any experience in it. What I was doing in the past was doing what my boss told me to do.
