People complaining about noise from church service

I was watching a morning news show this morning and got a real shock. One of the headlines was about a small church in Ohio whose neighbors were complaining that they made to much noise with their worship! I mean, come on now, basically everyone knows how most black people hold church. We mostly get very exuberant when we feel the Spirit. It was pointed out that this was in a mostly white neighborhood. I can't help wondering if the motivation behind these complaints are of a racial nature. Anyway, I say Amen to the pastor who said he is willing to go to jail for his belief and freedom to worship.

Well Worldwise our church is predominantly white and we sure make a lot of noise during worship = but surely this is the whole point of worship to throw yourself into it wholeheartedly - espescially when you have keyboards , a couple of guitars and even a set of drums to back it up with! lol I could see the neighbours point if it was 6 in the morning but come on - I'd rather be woken up to people joyfully worshipping God than drunks on their way home! lol

wow, i cant believe that. i attend a pretty sedate church (baptist) but have never heard of something like this. i agree with your minister...these are the last days where our taken for granted freedom of religion will evaporate little by little... whether it is racial tho, it certainly could be...we will be praying for the church and the minister for sure...maybe God can use this for the good...maybe the minister and the congregation can win the neighbourhood to God!!

singing is won thing but I have gone to a black church where the have a big band. The noise that sounding nice can hurt my ears, as I do not like very loud music of any kind by anybody. What you have to also remember is that inside the church you get to enjoy what is going on. Outside the church, it can sound like a monotonous thumping sound, with the walls of your house vibrating and you don't even have a chance to hear the music. In my city there is a noise law and if anything higher then whatever that level is is played they offending party whomever they are are asked to stop and if they don't they are fined. The key here is to respect everyone, and make compromises. The neighbours will have to tolerate a little noise for respect to religious freedom but the pastor to is in a position where he can tone down his music or loud singing or whatever he is doing too. To respect the people around him. After all he of all people who is a pastor should respect the needs of the community more than the average Joe on the street who doesn't know any better.

I saw the same show and I'm confident that this is clearly not only a race issue but a religous one as well.It was very clear that these white residents had a real problem with these "people" as they were refered to. This is not an new situation as in Brooklyn, about a week and a half ago,The exact same issue came up with a black church and a handful of white neighbors making the exact same statements! In that case that kind of thing is going on alot in NYC as alot of people have moved to areas in Brooklyn that were not considered "trendy" and have aquired property or homes and now want to push "certain people" out of their own neighborhoods. It has become clear to me that over the last few years this country has become alot more tolerant of what is obvious and clear acts of racism and intolerance.I mean who can actually in their right mind call the cops on churchgoers on a Sunday Morning for being loud?

while I'm not a Christian myself, if I had to attend a church service I would prefer a Gospel church. it seems so happy and so positive. in England most church services are pretty dull, and dreary, and don't seem like a celebration at all. which is surely the whole point of it, right?

Goodwealth_01, I would have to counter that with-shame on you if you do not realize that racism is alive and well in America. I know because I am in the minority. I did not bring up the issue to cause a ruckus. It is something that's common knowledge to most people. Everyone does not love thy neighbor. Having said this, I grew up in a small community where our house was situated between the two local churches. They both worshipped by making a joyful noise unto the Lord. My point is that instead of getting bent out of shape when the other church had a loud service, my aunt and I would be so enticed by the atmosphere of Christian fellowship that we would hurriedly dress and go to the service that was not at our church. We always came away better for it.

i think i doesn't matter that much, their happy with their religion or should i say, way of their worship... but in other hand those worshippers should consider what others think, they might want to convince others to join them by showing that they're enthusiastic in worshipping god, but if they're annoyingly disturbing, that's not gonna work.

That is really out of control for them to be complaining of this.I really do not blame the pastor for standing his ground. It could be a racial and then again a religous belief.

It was probably like one of those neighbor hoods like the ones built near air ports. The plane are flying over for years suddenly there is a housing development People buy the houses Then suddenly one day they wake up to plane flying over so they say to themselves let's sue the rich air port for all the noise that is destorying our peace. The same thing happens to the church. It set out in the middle of some open fields. Houseing development. starts getting closer and closer until they are next door. Some one wakes up and says hey thye are being too loud so let sue them

I do nt know much about this - but I can understand that they would find it hard if the people complaining are not religious themselves. I am not and i would be bothered to be forced to listen - however I would also never move that close to a curch if it did bother me. The pastor is standing up for his church and that is nice to see, more people should stand up for what they belive in!

The bible does say to make a joyful noise unto the Lord and to come before His presence with joy. When people watch their favorite sports they make joyful noises don't they?

wow! I agree with the pastor as well, I go to a pentecostal church and we definately aren't quiet, especially when we feel the spirit, but we have a right to worship and it's not late at night or early in the morning so I wouldn't think anyone would be upset... Too bad the people complaining don't just get curious enough to go on over and check it out, who knows, maybe they'll like it and join right in with the singing and praising!! Wouldn't that be great!! God Bless You all!

I am not sure what the motivation behind the complaints are, but I do think they are a little much. When people have nothing else to complain about than church noise, they need more of a life. Church is once or twice a week, get over it. It isn't like the services are held in the middle of the night. Just my thoughts...Good topic !

If someone told Jesus that his yelling and screaming was bothering them, he would probably apologize and keep his voice down. i doubt he would get pissed and start accusing people of racism. Soundproof the walls or something.

Chances are those same people make alot of noise themselves on the daily basis... I have sisters who complain when I get out my drum and stand 30 yards from the house and drum, and chant. They come outside all yelling lying saying their babies are sleeping and making up all kinds of crap. But yet when their babies really are sleeping... they blare Rap music full of obsensitites I can not repeat with nearly the same thump thump rhythem... How come it is okay for them to do that when I am trying to sleep... but I am not allowed to drum in worship without getting yelled at or interupted..... I found out what it is is they are terrified of my drum!.. They know I can do raincallings so they fear that if I have my drum I am calling the rain... But I have proven I do not need a drum to call the rain or lightening when needed... So their fear is stupid, and there is no excuse to interupt my worship, prayers, and journeys when I even set up a tape recorder in my house that is so good it picks up a pin drop. I walked down to where I drum and chant, and not a thing was picked up on this tape player which means... They can not even hear my drum from inside the house! ... So this means they were just being little snots, trying to interupt my worship, because they wanted me to be miserable... and that is how many are, they do not like a church or a religion, and they will look for any excuse they can to drive them out... I agree with you kudos to the rev... and for those who do not like loud church services.. Then I hope they do not like Bars, and Concerts, and loud car engines, fire trucks, and trains going down the tracks.. - DNatureofDTrain
