Hi cherriemae I use to lay in the sun all the time when I was a teenager. And I would get so brown. But now that Im older and wiser about the sun I dont lay in the sun anymore. I have real fair skin so I get sunburn easily. I cant believe I would fry myself.LOL

Funny you should post such a discussion. I just sunbathed today as a matter of fact. I am not overly concerned with getting sunburned because I already have a tan. When you already have what they call a base tan then it makes it harder for you to get burned. Now I tan both outdoors (sunbathing) and I also have a tanning lamp in my garage that I use. I use the tanning lamp when it is rainy or cold outside. Or if I just didn't get a chance to lay out that day then I will get in my tanning bed for a little while after the kids have gone to bed. I really prefer to sunbath instead of my tanning lamp, because when you sunbath you are also soaking up vitamin D which is something that your body needs. While you are in a tanning bed you don't get the vitamin D.

Did you know sun tanning beds are not safe? UV radiation from the sun, tanning bed or from sun lamps may cause skin cancer. Malignant melanoma is not detected early is fatal.

Funny you should mention it but I live in Singapore, which is a tropical island and sunshine is (not) a major problem, depending on which way you look at it. On top of that, the predominent culture is Chinese, which prizes fair skin and women go out of their way to become whiter. And yet, and yet, I know someone who spent loads of money to start up a suntan salon. The funnier thing is the fact that his tanning salon is actually making enough money for him to expand. - you never know where surprises come from next ;-)

sun bathing - 2 women bathing under the heat of the sun
My skin is naturally brown or tanned so I don't go sunbathing. While I love to go to the beach and swim in the sea, I don't bathe under the sun because I get really bored. I'd rather play volleyball or build sandcastles, that way I still get some sun and having fun too. Also I'm afraid to go out in the sun around 10am - 2pm because they say the sun's rays are very harmful during those times.

I don't like sun bathing. It made my skin look darker and I don't want to feel the itchiness every night on my skin.We all know that there are already radiation that can harm our skin nowadays.

I do not do much of sun bathing myself either. I don't like to get too dark in the summer. So, I always stay inside until the sun goes down if I don't have to go out that day.

I use to sunbathe when I was younger.Usually I went to the tanning bed. Its just too hot for me to lay out in the sun now. I don't like the heat and humidity we have here in the summer time and late spring.

I don't sunbathe at all. Partially because of the health concerns, UV rays are bad no matter what the time of day. I wear sunscreen when I am going to be out in the sun for any length of time. I'm pretty pale and burn easily, too, so it is especially bad for me. I mostly don't sunbathe because I find it very boring to just lay there in the heat doing nothing. I don't like being hot, nor do I like being bored, so sunbathing is practiacally punishment to me! :-)

Despite all the publicity and warnings, I do still like to sit in the sunshine. I enjoy sitting on my patio on warm sunny days, not exactly sunbathing, more relaxing in the warmth and light.

I like to be tan but not sun bath too much. I dont like being hot too much thats why. I am fine if I've been wet but just dry sun bathing drives me crazy. I dont know why but it does. I dont do unnatural sun tanning like tan bed either.

No, not at all. my skin is too sensitive . generally people are having only facial skin sensitive , but my whole body skin is very sensitive. i just cant stand sun , so sun bath is not at all in my dictionary. and its very tight as you have said that because of global warming and all, the sun rays are quite harmful now. the ozone layer is thining day by day. now people cant afford to step out of their houses withut a sun block . otherwise they have severe sun burns.

I love to but afraid of the consequences of that little enjoyment. The peel after was painful. There was once I went under the sun and ended up having fever for few days. I do go for a dip in the pool just to get that tan, but that was before I read about skin cancer from excessive exposure to the sun.

I don't like to go on sun bathing, especially I don't like to take sun in the face because sun makes look older the skin ( as all we can see on the face for example of fishermen and farm workers). I go on sun bathing after 17.00 PM not sooner and I put sun protection.
