Pig Latin is a language that is used to have fun and talk privately without others knowing what your talking about unless they to know it. It is a very popular language game nowdays everyone is doing. Do you speak it? It is really easy to learn just have to follow the rules. They are many variations on Pig latin since it was started in the 1900's. It is fun to learn and easy to use if you can keep it straight in your head..Here is some basic rules for using Pig Latin.
1. For words that begin with consonant sounds, move the initial consonant or consonant cluster to the end of the word and add "ay." Examples:
* button - utton-bay
* star ? ar-stay
* question ? estion-quay
* happy posting- appyhay osting-pay
2. For words that begin with vowel sounds (including silent consonants), simply add the syllable "ay" to the end of the word.
* eagle ? eagle-ay
* America ? America-ay
The most common variation in Pig Latin is to replace the "ay" in the second rule with other suffixes such as "way", "yay", or "hay"; thus, "eagle" ? eagle-ay, eagle-way, eagle-yay, or eagle-hay, depending on the rules. The "ay" formulation is probably the original, with the variations arising due to sandhi. Another variation is to take only the first letter and put it at the end, and add -ay, so "they" becomes "heytay", rather than "eythay"
is-thay is-yay an-yay example-yay of-yay Ig-pay Atin-lay. As-yay ou-yay an-cay ee-say, it-yay is-yay illy-say, ut-bay ort-say of-yay un-fay or-fay ildren-chay

"This is an example of Pig Latin. As you can see, it is silly, but sort of fun for children. But I myself love using pig latin drives my hubby nuts he doesn't understand it or even trieds to. So it is mine and my sister-in-laws "secret" language we for they won't know what were talking about. She is teaching her daughter now. I think it is a fun experience and fun to learn so give it a try and surprise somebody with it. They might like it also or surprise you by answering back. Pig latin been around along time. Lets keep up the trend.

My sister and I used to speak Pig-Latin around my parents so they couldn't understand. It worked for a little while but the eventually caught on. I'm going to go to work tomorrow and speak Pig-Latin just to see how many people can hold a conversation. Thanks for bringing back old memories!!

I can write it way better then I can speak it I speak it slower then most. Did he go around talking or writing in code? Me and my friends did that also. So if we lost our notes or someone took them we would not have to worry unless they could figure out the code but we kept it pretty hard.

We used to speak pig latin all the time when we were kids. I remember one time my mom had to take the dog to the vets for his shots, and my step sister and I waited in the car. We put the back of the station wagon down and talked pig latin, pretending that we were from another country...lol I'm sure everyone walking by was quite impressed. Not..lol

Oh, that used to be so popular in junior high and high school! My dad and sister were so good at it, but even though it is simple, I couldn't catch on to it very well. Even today, my sister can rattle off conversations in Pig Latin. Guess that's something she can proudly put on her resume.

Don't feel bad your not alone in that. My sister in law can rattle it off at 90 mile a minute but I have to think about each word I can speak it but it is tough for me to wrap my mind around it also. Well, thanks for posting to my discussion I appreciate it.Becca--(-

Woa, it seems an interesting language. But I wouldn't need to use a secret language to communicate with others. But if I need, I will create my own language. It must be funny to create new symbols, in my opinion. A new language. Would be really cool.

Thankks for responding to my discussion I appreciate it. Yes, a new language would be cool. I think it would be fun to create a language that only a few chosen few knew that would be great..thanks.

Yeah that would be great, people would be looking and listening trying to understand what your saying because they haven't a clue..possibly be getting quite a few dirty looks. You could call it alien slang.

Yeah, I also think like that. Only your close friends would know! It would be great to have a language like that... I just try to imagine the other people's face, while hearing you using the new language!

I remember as a kid that people would speak Pig Latin, but I have never done it. I remember being really baffled by it then. My favorite thing as a kid was to write in code. You make up your own code for the alphabet, then write notes to your friends with the code so no one would know what your secrets were. When I was in college, a friend and I would sometimes speak in French (she was much more proficient than I) if we didn't want our friends to understand what we were saying. Of course, you never know when someone will be around who understands.

Yes that is true, And it is the same way with the pig latin alot of people know it so we have to be careful. I used to write in code also, my teacher used to have a habit if reading the notes she took from us to the whole class so code was a must..Thanks for the post.

Yes, I do use something similar of this language, I think I use the igpay atinlay to talk to my sisters or brother or my best friends especially when we bargain to some stuff on the market and we just don't want the seller to know what we think about the price without offend them.
And amazingly, my dad use that kinda private language too, only most of the time I don't understand what he's talking about...hmmm....

I did and it was fun! Although our version was tailored to Filipino words so my friends and I had our own language codes that we also called Pig Latin but sounds different from what you described.
I remember how fun it was to talk to each other and people around us would stare as if they'd seen aliens from another planet :) Hmmm, I got to teach my kids to speak that ...
