When someone asks you your religion, what do you say?

Generally I know the person asking me at least a little (not really a topic that comes up otherwise), so my answer will be tailored to fit the person a bit. Most of them will already know that I'm some type of Christian. Now as it happens I'm Lutheran, which is a branch of Protestant Christianity, and I'll explain that. There are even branches within Lutheranism, so depending on how familiar the person is with the subject, I might go into explaining which one I belong to, etc. However, what puzzles me is that I've met people who will identify themselves as Christian, always, and then perhaps get more specific. Even if the person they're talkign to already knows that they're Christian, they'll say that first. I'm guessing it's a part of living their faith, but I have to say I don't get it. If they already know, why make the point of saying it again?

Pagan. I elaborate if they ask questions, or seem unecessarily bothered by it.

I usually answer that I am a Christian but do not belong to any Christian religion. If every Christian would only call themselves simply as Christian, there would not be so much confusion and division in Christianity. If inquired further what particular denomination I meet with, I would say none and add that I meet with a local Christian church gathering having no particular name.

Personally I'd say that I follow the Church of Integrity and then go into details on that as needed. (No it's not Christianity, it's a new religion.) You can read more on http://churchofintegrity.blogspot.com You make a good point on why they state again that they are Christians. I mean I don't see anything against it, they are just making it absolutely clear where they are roughly and then go into details as possible. I mean for some then just saying Christian is enough because they don't know that much about all the different partitions of Christianity.
