hello ladies and gentlemen.. everyday we're breathing the air in and out of our body.. and we cannot actually see what we're breathing... we do aware that small particles such as bacteria and germs are all over the air.. so..are you afraid of germs? .. i think i am afraid of bacteria and germs.. i think there's an outbreak called the SARS years back.. and tht disease actually spreads through the air.. gosh.. many peoples were so afraid that they might contract the virus... so.. they wore mask to prevent contaminated air from entering their body.. besides, i'm sure you have to touch many things daily to get things done.. don't you think there are germs on the things you're touching? for example, tables.. doorknob...and so on.. can we actually use soap to clean those germs or bacteria? or do we need something more?

I am because I have a low immune system due to ebstein barr. I get sick really easily so I disinfect everything. I try not to use public bathrooms if I can and I wash my hands when I do and use the paper towel I dry my hands with after I wash to open the door handle going out. Think of all the people who don't wash their hands touching that door going out. I use sol-u-guard by melaleuce on everything because it kills 99.99% germs and is safer than bleach and it doesn't "bleach" things white when I use it.

Ebstein Barr is a rare form of mono that once you get it it is always in your system and it breaks down your immune system so yo get sick a lot easier and it takes at least 3 times as long to get better. Most people are immune to getting Ebstein Barr since birth but I wasn't one of them.

not really. some are harmful, bit a certain degree of exposure to germs is good for you. in houses that are always spotlessly clean, the children grow up with athsma and allergies, more so than in a house that is a little bit more laid back. we need to be exposed to small amounts of harmful germs so that we can build up immunity.

that's how vaccinations work, yes. it teaches your body to recognise and attack the germs.

Bacteria and germs are necessary for our survival. But as with anything, too much of a good thing. We have thousands of little germs which cover our bodies, regardless of how much we bathe. They keep our skin healthy..without them our skin would deteriate and we would die. If we're not exposed to germs young our immune system diesn't even have a chance to handle them later when we go out into our enviroment. Germs help ourn bodies prepare to fight diseases. Ever wonder why cattle farmers tend to get sick less? The cleansing bacteria in catte waste is breathed in by millions of tiny particles, the farmer's body discovers these new germs an d builds up its defenses, making it hard for the common cold to take hold of the farmer. We NEED germs and bacteria. But in the right amounts. Being clean is key, but obliterating germs and bacteria altogether is an unrealistic if not self-defeating goal.

It's understandable to be afraid of germs (bacteria and viruses) because of all the havoc they can cause in our lives. But, to some extent, germa play a BENEFICIAL role in the universe. A minimal exposure (something that would make us "sick" but not kill us) to germs helps to build up our immune systems. WIthout that minimal exposure, we would have no defense against the germs that could kill us. Then, even the smallest "bug" could cause our ultimate demise. AND, did you know that we have bacteria living in our bodies that help us to operate properly? Intestinal flora ("germs") are present at all times and play a very important role in our wellbeing. Germs are things to be wary of. However, our fear of disease has caused all germs to get a bum rap. GErms are not things that I would personally like to cuddle with, but, given the circumstances of the roles they play in life, I guess they rank somewhere in there with spiders, bees and snakes. NO one likes them, but they do have a purpose and a role in the world -- snd they are not ALWAYS bad.

Well, germs are the dirty things in our society. Sometimes we can see them, most of the time we can't. Humans have developed many chemicals to defeat the bacteria. For example, penicilin and the anti-bacterial soap. However, no matter how much we try to defeat the bacteria they will always develop resistance against us. Therefore I take the attitude of not caring about germs too much. Sometimes if I feel that my hands are really dirty, then I would wash my hands. Otherwise, I would just wrap tissue over my food for instance while eating it.

so.. you think it's better if we just leave it? i mean.. certain exposure to germs are useful to us.. so we just leave it so they can attack our body immune system .. and our body will develop a resistance towards those germs? =)

Everybody is afraid of germs and bacteria. If we not hygenic enough, we can get sick. But we have our own defense system in our body called antibody. So we only need to take good care of our system so as not to get sick easily. Besides, worrying too much of how much germ or bacteria you contact with will only drive you crazy. you will end up becoming a phobic. You might just think everything is dirty, everything needs cleaning or disinfection. You will be a prisioner of your own. As for me, it is good enough if I have wash my hands with soap or clean the dirty area. I wont want to burden my head thinking about germ or bacteria flying everywhere.

do you mean by nourshing our antibody.. we can actually protect ourself from germs? i've thought of it too.. now i just want to know whether it's better to increase our body immune system or to protect ourself physically.. for example.. wearing mask

No, not especially, unless I know the flu's going around or something, then I'll wash my hands alil extra, and try and stay away from exceedingly used places in public. I think people worry a little too much about germs, it brings out the paranoid creep in some people.

yeah germs freak me out. what scares me more is public bathrooms! gross! i use tissue paper for everything, even closing the water for the sink and opening the doors - I refuse to touch anything. I also wont share food or drinks with friends, so yeah I guess to say the least I am scared of them and they gross me out. Although I must say dont spend too much time worrying about this, there are so many other things to worry about! :)

Yes bacteria are all around us but we got good bacteria in our body to fight any inside our body, onething more frequent washing may kill those bacteria, yes it is true it can help a lot..

Germs and Bacterias also got rights to live here. Why are you scared of them. Dont we have enough antibodies in our body to protect us from germs and bacterias?

Hi Charles, well I am not that afraid of germs, in my home but we should try and be careful when we mix with the general public as you never know where they have been or what they have touched. I also do remember SARS years back but fortunately this never came to my country so I did not have to worry about it too much. Just by cleaning the tables.. doorknob and so on this will not prevent altogether the germs so we definately would need something more.

how bout getting those antibacteria sprays? i think they're quite useful ... because we can spray at area that we can't usually reach while cleaning.. for example.. behind your cupboard.. or under your bed..

I dont know about touching germs. But I am hyper senstive as my sister pointed out to people eating or drinking same thing. I hate when we have to share a straw and we are related! So I dont like those type of germs. I dont know about others but for drinking food germs I hate those!

Nope I'm not afraid of them - there are germs and bacteria on every single thing we touch and our immune systems protect us from most of them. I think people get far too stressed about that sort of thing nowadays. I remember the SARS outbreak you are talking about. I suppose that's a slightly different issue in that if you know there is a risk of a specific disease it makes sense to take precautions against contracting it although whether wearing a facemask was necessary I'm not sure.

If we are careful we can avoid a lot...But we can never be perfectly free from germs...Its all over the air ...But to avoid it we cant avoid the air... So dont worry that much about but be careful...

I am a germ freak. I'm always washing my hands and I NEVER touch door knobs with my bare hands, instead I always use a paper towel. I get sick a lot so I try especially hard to take care of myself.

Well i think they are affraid of me..Lol If to be serious, i really think that we fear of germs too much. First of all there are germs in everything, even things we never thought about, so we can not start and avoid all the germs. If we are healthy in body and mind, we won't get effected by the germs. Our body is build in a way that he copes with the germs and does not let us get sick. But i can assure you that if we will be affraid and think about it all day, we will be effected and sick.

I am very cautious of germs too. I teach my nephew to wash his hands before he eats, after playing outside, using the restroom. I teach him to cough into his arms. We have hand sanitizers everywhere. One of my coworkers is like you, very scared of germs and her daughter started kindergarden in september, she donated like 5 bottles of hand sanitizers to her kids class.

When i arrive at home ,i must wash my face and hands. I must wash my hands when i'm getting to have dinner.i will wash the vegetalbes at least 3 times before i cook them. some friends often ask me such a question, 'do your parents work in a hospital?' at first ,i dont understand. Most of people work in a hospital have the habit like me. i dont know when i get the habit, but now it is hard to give up it.And i dont think this is a bad habit .but for my friends, they will feel uncomfortable.Because i will ask them to wash twice hands .
