Does anyone have any ideas on housebreaking a dachshund?

I raise dachshunds and the best way I have found to housebreak them is crate training. It is easier if you start when they are really small but it should still work if they are older. It may take a little longer but it works. Here is what you do: Purchase a crate that is just the size of the dog. You don't want one that gives them too much room to move around in. Find a place in the yard to make it the "special" place just for him/her to go potty and walk them there and make sure you use the words pee pee or potty, something you would use only when talking to him about the bathroom. Once he has done his business, take him inside for a little playtime. Not too long about half hour or so. Now here comes the hard part. Put him back in the kennel for about an hour or so. if he isn't used to being crated he is going to scream his fool head off but take my word for it, this works! after about one hour, go for his "walk" and make SURE he goes. Repeat this process and make playtime a little longer each time.
