Until a week or two ago, I'd never heard of melamine. It is the incredient in pet food that killed the dogs and cats in the USA. The Chinese use it to boost protein levels in food products. Some of these food products were exported to the USA where it was put in pet food. Turns out this was not an isolated incident by some rogue Chinese company. The use of melamine in China has been common for a long time. Read more about it here. http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070430/wl_nm/china_feed_melamine_dc The headline of the article is, "Melamine in big demand in China as a food additive." How do we know melamine is not being slipped into human food products for export? Would this not be a low level form biological or chemical warfare? What do you think of the melamine scandal concerning Chinese food exports? http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070430/wl_nm/china_feed_melamine_dc

Fortunately for my wife and I we never had any kiddies. Adoption is something we never even considered except to agree we did not want to do it. We both had known people for whom this was a disaster, so we did not want to chance it.

Well at least no-one can point the bone at you red and try and tell you how much you stuffed up bringing up your kids! Amazing how so many of the people who try to do that have had so many problems themselves, but don't see it??? lol

I never know that melamine used as a food additive. As far as I know, melamine is a raw material used to made ceramic like kitchen utensils. They are like plastics but stronger and can resist heat better. But it's sounds scarry if they were used in food as well..

You are exactly right! Melamine is the raw material for ceramic and plastic like materials. It was never intended to be a food additive. But the Chinese have doing exactly that. There is more information in the article. This is a national security concern as whether or not the Chinese are adding this to exported food products.
