Does anyone really know the difference between Plasma, LCD, and DLP TV's??

I recently purchased a flat panel LCD TV. Whenever I tell someone they automatically say "YOU GOT A PLASMA". I then find myself explaining the difference. It makes me wonder if anyone really knows the difference between Plasma, LCD and DLP televisions. What I am finding is that people assume that a PLASMA is a FLAT PANEL. I think it is because Plasma was the first flat panel Tv on the market. Tell me what your thoughts are. By the way, Plasma, LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) and DLP (Digital Light Projection) is just how the TV shows the image. Flat Panel are the fancy flat ones that could be either Plasma or LCD. Let me know your thoughts.

Many people have problems with new technology constantly popping up. Even I have some problems, and I have a very good memory. It is no surprise to me that people get confused with all the nicknames people are calling things these days... Just for future reference, I would like to know if I have gotten this right: Plasma is a type of flat panel screen that holds and inert mixture of noble gasses, which is electrically turned into plasma which then causes phosphors to emit light. LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display (or was it Lighted Crystal Display?) and uses very little energy to generate color in pixels in front of a light source. I am not sure about DLP... perhaps you could post a comment to explain to me what it was? Thank you for your time. Have a good day.

Ahh... I see my first thought of what LCD stood for was correct. I did not read your last comment thoroughly enough.

DLP or Digilat Light Projection is a light bulb that makes the image appear. You were right on about Plasma and LCD. Some say that Plasma shows better blacks than LCD. But I hear that DLP is the way to go. The bulbs are easy to replace and cost about 200 US but last about 5-7 years. They dont make those flat yet. Too bad that I just got the LCD. Maybe in a few years Ill get the DLP. Have a good one also.

Yea everyone makes that mistake. I have had freinds that bought plasma's think that what they were supposed to get put really wanted LCD. PLasma Sucks....and the best black colors are still with a tube projection. SONY XBR LINE IS THE BEST IN LCD AND TUBE. T
