John Petrucci is the lead guitarist of the progresive rock band dreamtheatre. almost from the intro til the last you'll hear his guitar scream!!! you usually hear him use a technique called ARPEGGIO or others call it sweep picking. and another unique factor about his style is he mixed the melodic-minor scale and the chromatic scale (Like in flight of the bumble bee)and played them in blazingly fast guitar shredding!!! do you agree???

hell yeah!! john petrucci is definitely "one of the most scariest" (as joe satriani describes him) 6-stringers of all time. barely uses fx for his pieces, but still makes good out of it. i also love his rendition of "flight of the bumblebee" with joe satriani. my fav riffs are Glasgow Kiss, Curve, Damage Control, Wishful Thinking, Bite of the Mosquito(with jordan rudess), and Smoke on the Water, La Grange from G3 tokyo. c",)

I'm not a huge progressive fan but my boyfriend is. He lives and breathes Dream Theater and John Petrucci. I didn't know this band or this guy existed until I met my bf. But I ahve seen videos and heard enough songs to truly appreciate his talent. I do agree with you, Petrucci is amazing! I love how he looks so relaxed when he plays I know if I tried to play some of his riffs I would look like I was gonna break a blood vessel because theya re so lightening quick and intricate but Petrucci just goes along like he's not doing anything crazy lol. I love theat he looks so non chalante! I only wish he would play a few hardcore or metal songs wow, he would rip it up and roK it out!

Dream Theater did cover the entire Master of Puppets album one time, and I saw the video of them playing the actual song. Petrucci was awesome, and even though DT only has 1 guitarist and Metallica has 2, either John Petrucci was doing something really crazy or whoever their keyboardist was at the time (it's Jordan Rudess now, isn't it?) was backing him up, you honestly couldn't tell the difference between DT's performance and the MoP album, other than the vocals and a couple of parts they added just for the keyboard.

Yes, I'd have to say Petrucci is the one of the best. Petrucci's technique is by far the greatest out of all "known" guitarists out there right now. Before you make any decisions though, check out Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert, and Steve Morse. You'll be pleasantly surprised.

I agree, he is a great guitar player. I don't think he's my favorite, but he is really good. It kind of depends on what I've been listening to lately. I haven't listened to Dream Theater in a little while (or his other stuff, like his solo album or Liquid Tension Experiment), so I haven't thought about him as much. By the way, nice 12 Oz Mouse pic, just about everyone I know hasn't even heard of the show, and although it is really strange and poorly drawn, there's just something very "likeable" about the characters and the show itself.

Totally off topic, but yes, 12 oz mouse is my favorite! I wish more people were into 'em. Can't wait for the supposed dvd that's supposed to come out!

Yeah, that was pretty off-topic, but it took me by surprise, so I had to mention it, lol.

No doubt one of the most skilled guitarists today. Ive seen them live in the front row right on the barricade and they are all as good live as in the studio. What sickens me is the way he makes it look so effortless. He could be burning up the most intricate and fast lick and have a look on his face thats says, "hmmm...do I want to paint my bedroom beige?, and maybe some pizza after the show, yeh, that would be good". I'll brag a little now, Ive managed to learn some of this stuff, took me forever though.
