In history, Rome was once a super power country but as time goes by their power just fade slowly. Same with Spain. How about the U.S. and the North America? Can they maintain their super powerful status? China is the next super powerful country in the world! What can you say?

China keeping a great growth these years. It becomes stronger and stronger. China definately will be next super powerful country! Well, if china want to surpass U.S or North America, there is still long way to go. Not only the educational condition, technoloty development, but also the business environment, china has a lot to learn and to develop.

Yah it is true because a lot of my friends were hired in China as consultants, engineers, teachers, other technical works which needs a master to do the tasks. The business environment of China is so good but the gov,t didn't do something for the pirated products manufactured right in China area.

The roman empire survived for hundreds of years before it collapsed, as did the British and french colonies. The USA has only been a super power for the last 70 years or so, so historically it should have a while to go before it colapses. It is clear that China is becoming more and more powerful simply because of their huge workforce but they have a lot of work still to do before they are anywhere near the USA because they are still a very undeveloped nation in comparison. I can't see anyone challenging USA in the near future (unless the EU becomes one country)

No one challenged USA today vocally but the way I looked at it, there are many countries challenging USA. It is obvious that because of the huge labor force that china can supply to the world, the chain reaction was that they also supply a very low low priced commodities of which has a great impact to the supply and demand of a market. China now has so many advantages and maybe overlooked by so many countries. Almost every country has china town, the word of mouth to almost everybody is better buy in china town for it is sold in competitive price. This is hard to be erased in the minds who had experienced buying retail at wholesale price. Their military personnel is so huge also. What we see in figures is not true. Anytime their gov't can produce it if they wanted to. This is one aspect that was being overlooked also and maybe....... Well this is only a discussion where opinions are conceived and subject to public arguments anytime by everyone. It's much much more funny if someday Philippines is the super power country in the world. I mean it because I'm a Filipino a native of the Philippines and who knows???????????hmmmmmmm.

The problem the chinese are going to have is that they built their economy on being able to produce cheap goods but as the amount of money in the country goes up wages will also have to go up and then what will happen? all these cheap jobs will move somewhere else like india or Afrrica. This is why i think USA is in a stronger position economically. As for cultural impact we all see signs of america everywhere including fast food restaurant, movies, music, TV, websites.

Yah it is true. The salary is the problem in China. Except for the Filipino because what they hired from Philippines were compensated well. So far, I can rate USA on their salary system as excellent. Based on my experience, I'd encountered a company in the US who are importing products in the Philippines and they are very strict on the social benefits of the employees of the factory in the Philippines. They even hired a third party company from the US to have a physical visit to the location of the factory and will ask local agencies if this factory is complying with the exact salary schemes and giving the exact social benefits to all employees regular or casual. If they found that your factory is not giving the required benefits for the employees then they will never buy your products. This I think would make USA still the super power country today but China's big boomed on their economy can immediately copy and implement what the US did to their private and gov't employees thus Making China the next super power country in the world.

u cant compare superpowers from history to the present superpower ie US. because Rome and the British etc were military superpowers ... but the US is not only a military superpower but also an economic superpower. So even though the economy of china is increasing , it is only due to the 'demand' in US. Also , the head start the US has will make sure that it will continue to be there right on top. Just look that its allies , they are everywhere !! Britain, Japan, India, etc ... ( now even Russia ) , how many allies does China have ? and how many countries actually trust China ? This means that we have to wait for another was for the balance to shift from US to China which hopefully will never happen ...

We just hope that US leaders will maintain their super power status in the world. I can't imagine the number of human rights violations if ever a new country will be the next superpower.....

The British Empire was a financial superpower it had many powerful companies like The East India Trading company who had as much control outside the Empire as it did within though it is less apparent in the days before the industrial revoluion. I see China growing fast as many of the mid range Economic countries have been over the past few decades. The deciding feature of this equation is not totally in China's hands though it is in the hands of the US. The US economy has been slipping over the past several years as well as that of her allies which are of course entrensically tied into her power if the US intends to stay on top she will have to control her spending.

I believe that India is Giving China a real run for its money. While today, China is certinly progressing faster than India, besides already being stronger than India. The biggest disadvantage of China is its language-as nobody speaks English. Today, u may say that Japan has always had the same problem always, but has always been booming, yet the effects of uniformity in linguistics could and would be felt in the net decade. India would need to worry about the Beijing Olympics as that would be the global eye-opener for China to prove its mettle, as it is not going to be an event only full of sports.

I could not say for this time that English is the problem with china today. Don't you know that we have a lot of foreigners like Korea, China and Japan studying English here in the big universities of Cebu? And a lot of Job opportunities for Philippines as English tutor and professors. The main reason that they are here is to compete the net decade you'd said. China also hired Filipino consultants to work there in the mainland because of the Filipino advantage in the English language. Most Chinese schools here in the Philippines are not worried in the English subject because Chinese professors believed that the next English language in the world is Chinese language and they always remind their young students about it. Modesty aside, the numbers of Chinese around the world is amazing! They are like mushrooms spawning everywhere.

I do agree with u on that ground as well. Chinese people are spawning everywhere, that too successfully. An amazing and credible task of Chinese is sports- I believe that they are very very exceptional spots persons, like in Swimming, gymnastics and other acrobatics where they are unbeatebale. Howeve, having woked and spoken to several senior and experienced ppl in the field of offshoring, I come to understand that English- as I mentioned is the main drawback of Chinese. Anyway, I too hope that Chinese would be the future of global business and corporate linguistics- as it is high time that some Asian super power take control of Global trade. cheers mate.

When I was in elementary school, my teacher used to say (this was Chinese geography, one of the most boring subjects ever) that we should take our Chinese subjects seriously because Chinese is going to be the next English (she's talking about the language). But we never took her seriously because our idea of China then (that was about 8 years ago) was that of a rural country where everyone was planting rice and wearing matching pajama-like clothes. Looking at China now, I was amazed at the speed of its improvement. It is not undeveloped at any means. I was just in Shanghai two years ago, and the structures were so amazing and the technology so advanced that I wondered, if that happened in the span of only 5 or so years, what would China be after 20? Technology-wise, it is very much possible that China will be the next super power country. Of course, it is a big country too. I think what they need to concentrate on improving now is their people skills. First they need to learn how to speak in English because they have to do trade and negotiations with other countries. Next is their attitude towards tourist, or generally, people. It's like their technology and infrastructures developed so fast that the people failed to cope with those. Some people's attitude over there were kind of offensive, somewhat rude. But over-all, it's a good place. And it will gain more power in the years to come.

I like your comment and I will presume that you are from a chinese descent. Your teacher might have a point that chinese language is the next english in the world. Look what happen to spanish it was the global language before but it faded and abruptly change to english. Chinese might be the next english for the next 5 years or so. Or it will happen only if China is already the super power country of the world.
