Ok I was sent an e-mail today that I had seen before but it prompted me to start a new discussion. I'll share the joke with you later...
awhen my granddaughter was born there was a bit of commotion in the room. I was there and daddy, my sister (auntie), my youngest daughter (sister), and a few ggod friends of my daughter in and out. My youngest was 17 and had never seen a live childbirth before. She wanted to stay andf wanted to leave. She stayed but luckily one of my daughters friends watched over her as she was white as a sheet by the time it was over. My sister has 3 children. She allowed the youngest to come in and out of her room until the last minute. A friend just had a baby and she has a 10 years old, 6 year olsd and 3 year old. The10 year old saw the 6 ear old be born. The 6 year old and 2 year old have not had that experience as mommy had to have c-sections, however the baby was taken to them right away after birth. Before comeplete clean up.
So what do you think, would you, or did you allow your children to watch child birth?
Here's the e-mailed joke:
Due to a power outage, only one paramedic responded to the call for a
woman in labor. The house was very dark so the paramedic asked Kathleen, a 3-yr old girl, to hold a flashlight high over her mommy so he could see while he helped deliver the baby.
Very diligently, Kathleen did as she was asked, Mother Heidi pushed
and pushed and after a little while, Connor was born. The paramedic
lifted him by his little feet and spanked him on his bottom. Connor began to cry.
The paramedic then thanked Kathleen for her help and asked the
wide-eyed 3-yr old what she thought about what she had just witnessed.
Kathleen quickly responded,
"He shouldn't have crawled in there in the first place .....spank him again!"
If you don't laugh at this one, there's no hope for you!

The joke was cute. As for children being there to witness childbirth, it does depend on their age. Teenagers yes, smaller kids it would depend on their maturity. The parents need to discuss that and also talk to the kids about it, maybe show them a movie and see how they react to that. Birth can be scary but also is the most beautiful thing to witness.

My 4 and half year old was in the room when I started to deliver 3 years ago but she was asleep on the sofa thing but by the time the baby came out my mom and brother showed up so my brother took her out to the waiting room to watch her so if she did wake up she would not see my youngest being born.

I, personally, cant understant why anyone has to be in there other than the husband. It's kind of an important & personal time & don't really see a need to have parents, siblings, friends & other relatives around for it.
I had a C Section so it was just my partner in there but i don't think i'd have had anyone other than my partner in there if i'd had a natural birth either - to me it just doesn't seem necessary to have every family member in there. I think it needs to be a moment between husband & wife, not the entire clan!!!
So that would include no kids as well i guess.
Just a personal opinion though :)
