Why do you think this is? The word We didn't even make it to top 20. And on some lists the word Thank is ranked 800+.
Have we as humans became too focused on ourselves? Do we talk about ourselves more than we talk about others? Doing a search on the most common word brings up a lot of different sites. When you look over all at words written or spoken I ranks about 11. The, and, an, on, all precede it. However I still ranks up there. Why do we use the word I so much?
What do you think about the use of the word I and why we use it as much as we do?

I've long felt that this has become a "me" society. Everyone seems to be so focused on themselves, their own ambitions and ego's that they really don't care that much about others. I (there's that word again) am also surprised that you didn't get more responses.
An interesting note, did you know that "e" is the most commonly used letter in the English language? When cyphers are trying to break a code in English, they count up which ever character is used the most times and usually consider it to be an "e."

Thank you for responding. That's what I have always felt also. (See what you made me do lol. I was trying to get through this discussion without using it. Now it's been used 2 times by me lol.) It is surprising that more people didn't respond to this discussion. Maybe becasue it is something we are all guilty of? The letter e is the most commonly used letter and the word the is the most commonly used word either spoken or written. You can find out a lot of interesting information if you are willing to do the research!
