I just looked at my cats claws. It appears that one of them has grown into the pad of her paw! There is no blood or bruising but it looks like it's pressing into it. I tried to pull it out but it wouldn't budge. I trim my cats claws every few weeks, but this one might have been one that I missed, but wouldn't it have fallen out on it's own? Is this normal? What should I do? She doesn't appear to be in any pain at all and isn't favouring the other paw. The only thing I notice is that when she walks, that paw makes a clicking noise which is the sound of the claw hitting the floor. I last trimmed her claws two weeks ago and didnt' notice this at all. I'v also never seen this kind of thing before but for all I know it's just an ingrown nail. Should I take her to the vet or should I just wait to see what happens? I want to take care of her the best way possible but I also don't want to run to the vet if it's not something serious, because the vet will charge me 80$ just to walk through the door and my cat HATES going there, and gets very upset, and she's 21 and I don't want to excite her anymore than I have to. EEK! What do I do? Like I said she doesnt' seem to be in pain at all.

I would take her to the vet, but I don't know. I didn't even know cats could get in-grown nails.

I would take her to the Vet before it gets any longer and goes farther into her paw and starts to hurt her.. It sounds like it is a ingrown nail, and that can get pretty bad if it isnt taken care of as soon as possible. Best of Luck . :):)

Have you trimmed it yet? I saw that you started this a few days ago, and I was just wondering how your poor cat is doing now? I've never seen that happen with my cat, but my dog has had an ingrown nail before. It was not fun. We had to cut it soo short to get it taken care of, because it started splitting, too. Now we check both dogs and the cat every weekend and trim them if they need it.

I've seen this happen a lot -- it is an ingorwn nail. Try your best to trim the nail yourself first. It should be pretty eay to se where the quick is. You may need to cut the nail off in small sections. Once you get the nail trimmed, it will be much easier to see if the pad has been injured. If there is no injury, you are all set. If the pad is injured, use your best juddement to decide if a trip to the vet is needed. I used to help my cousin who raised Persians and we would see this kind of thing every couple of months. It is easy to miss trimming a nail here and there if the kitty doesn't want to sit still. I hope this helps you out.

yes it helps a lot thanks. I think I will try myself to trim it, VERY difficult with this cat, otherwise I will bring her to the vet.
