When you were little did one of your parents read to you or make up stories for you? My mom would always make the most wonderful stories for me. It was always about Princes Carol lol (hm is that why I think I'm a princess?) lol.She was the best at coming up with the most imaginative stories. I really miss those. If she were alive today I bet she would be an author of children's books. The adventures of Princess carol. Do you read to your children?

My Mom was great for making up stories. When I was young she would tell them mostly to my younger sisters but when I got to the age of having sleep-overs she geared stories to my friends and I's age. Even when I was in high-school we would ask Mom to tell us a story. She loved doing it but never had much self-confidence (thanks to my father). I still remember my last slumber party was my senior year in high school. My girl-friends and I were going to go to the drive-in (yes, they still had them back then)but it started raining just before we were going to leave so we talked Mom into coming down in the basement and telling us a story after my younger sisters were in bed. She scared us all so bad we didn't go to the drive-in again the rest of the year. It was naturally about a group of girls that went to the drive-in and there was a Swamp Thing type monster roaming the theater.

Maybe that's why we have sooo much in common :) She was very effective though - I found out years later that she didn't like the idea of us girls going to the drive-in but it was my 18th birthday and she didn't want to say no... The rain saved her that night and the story fixed us for years after. I remember I was 20 years old in San Diego, CA and a date took me to the drive-in - all through the movie I kept looking out all the windows watching for that creature Mom created.

It was always my mum that read to me and encouraged me to read. I used to love my Mr Men collection and for each birthday, Christmas or when I had done well at nursery or school either mum or one of my aunts would buy me a Mr Man book! Mum also used to read me Aesops fairytales too! That's one of the things I loved doing at my nursery school where I worked for a while reading to the children, I put on different voices for them and they were enchanted! The teacher was impressed it was the quietest time they have been when it was story time with Mr D!

Yes, they did. My dad especially was the story teller, especially when it was about something that was of interest to him - he could tell you the story as if he had really been there. I am told he also read me Jabberwocky when I was a baby - which I got a major kick out of.

When I was a kid, my parents used to tell me sweet sweet stories about what happened before or fiction stories and I was so excited whenever they told me those stories. I am not married and I don't have a child, neither do I have children. Have a nice day.

My Mom read to me quite a bit. Its probably why I like reading so much now and as I was growing up too. I just love to read. I also read (though not as often as I should) to the little kids I watch. Most of the time they just don't stop moving enough for me to actually read to them anyway.

My Dad had the most wonderful stories about a man who would float down to our house on a cloud, and take me on all kinds of cool adventures. Thanks for making me think of those memories.

My mom use to read to me quite often, usually at night, before I went to sleep. She didn't ever make up her own stories, though... she really didn't have very much of a creative sense. I started writing at a pretty early age (5 or 6) and would write stories I then wanted my mom to read to me.... kinda strange, I know.

When I was young, my parents are busy making ends meet. I read my own stories and I envy children whose parents read to them. I try to read to my nieces but they are not interested in books at this point of time. They prefer to draw.

I remember an aunt reading to me alot and sometimes my mom. Mostly i remember billy goats gruff and thumbelina. However i mostly remember my dad, he wasn't a very creative story teller, but he always had something humorous to say, ensuring we always fell asleep with a smile. hes a goof.

Yes, my Dad used to read to us or tell us make-up stories. I guess he thought my Mum had had enough of us by bedtime! lol. There were four of us, I have two sisters and a brother, so I daresay we ran my Mum ragged by tea time. Bless her. Thank you for this discussion Snow, and Brightest Blessings.

Girl Reading - reading to your children early might make them more interested as they get older.
My parents did when I was very little. I don't have any children yet, but I would like to once I begin to raise my family. I think it's a great way to interact with your children, especially at a younger age. I know it was something I always looked forward to.

When I was little my mom would read to me, and that is what made me decide to read to my daughter. I know it is something she will enjoy and look forward too! When my dad would volunteer for story time when he was home (he traveled a lot with his job) he would always tell me a story. He had a great imagination and I always enjoyed his stories. When my mom and dad come out in June for my daughters first birthday, my mom has already nominated herself to read to her before bed.

Both my parents read to me, and my big sister used to read to me all the time when I was a kid. My Dad's stories were always my favorite ones though, he really got into them, he was really animated when it came to telling stories and I loved it! I don't have kids, but I will most definitely read to them. I read to my nephew all the time when he was young and I think that helped spark an interest in books in him. I know my sister and all reading to me is definitely what got me into books.
