I make and decorate cakes as a hobby. I've sold a few of them but I have a small issue about how to keep a tiered cake leveled. Any suggestions???

I love cake so much...i once went to wal-mart at about 2:30 a.m. for some cheesecake. Sounds kind of crazy but i'm no longer like that. I have a wife that makes very good cakes very oftehn for me. Its a funny thing tho...she also has problems with keeping the tiered cake leveled.

When you are making your tiers are you using ooden dowels and cardboard cake seperaters? If not that will help you. You use skinny dowels you can get them at lumber stores or wal-mart in the craft section. You measure the height of the bottom cake layer and cut 4 to 6 dowels depending on the cake size push them all the way into the cake they should be levei with the top. Then sprinkle grandulated sugar on th top of the layer before adding next tier, If your using pedestals make sure the dowels are under them. Good luck...

Thanks for the advice! Why do you sprinkle powdered sugar on top before putting the next tier on?

I have watched my mom make several wedding cakes! You can get plastic doodahs to keep the cake level. There are vertical posts that go down inside the cake and then you put a plastic disk on top and put the next cake level on top of the disk. You should be able to find them at Wilton's or other cake decorating supply stores.
