Chelsea Out of the Championship

What a way to go out. Extra time and then lose out on penalties. There is no doubt about it Ricardo Carvalho was missed and I don't think John Terry was at his peak although I have to admit that coming off an injury with little time to recuperate sufficiently he did his best. It is difficult to say that Liverpool played better than Chelsea but they did come out the winner. Now all we have to do is wait until tomorrow night to see if it will be an all English final. I'm still putting my money on "The Kid" and ManUtd.

As you know by now Man U are out so Liverpool have been left tp represent us. I am watching the derby at the moment between Man U and City and Man U are winning 1-0 so far. A penalty from a foul on The Kid. He actually didn't dive this time!!LOL If it stays this way Chelsea will have to beat Arsenal tomorrow to stay in the running for winning the Premiership. I am an Arsenal fan, so I hope they win, which will mean Man U win too. I think I can live with this as I am not a Chelsea fan at all. They represent what I dislike about football today. Its all about money. Even Man U have trained and kept loyal to their players like Giggs and Scholes, even though an American now owns the company! I cannot believe I am actually wanting to see Man U win over another team. I suppose it goes back to when I was a kid and I did support them, when my heroes Steve Coppell and Bryan Robson use to play, oh and of course Mark Hughes!! I'll keep you posted to see if The Kid scores again!!!

Yes, my worst fears about ManUtd came true. It's probably punishment for my glee at Chelsea's loss. As a Brit I'm sure you would have liked to see one of them in the final but that's life. I actually thought it would come down to Mu vs Chelsea in the final. But at least one English team is in there and let's hope they take it all. I didn't watch the first half of the game but I saw the reruns of the foul and The Kid's penalty kick. Glad to see he's back on track. Not sure I will be watching Chelsea either because it's during my lunch time. I have to watch the Premier Leage at a cafe or restaurant because I don't have the channel that telecasts the games. Porto and Benfica won today and Sporting (my team) plays tomorrow. Wanted Porto to lose or tie. Loss by Porto and win by Sporting would put the latter tied for first place with Porto with the advantage of a tie and a win against Porto. Sporting winning the last 3 games is a shoo in for 2nd place with Benfica only 1 pt behind. It's gonna go down to the wire. + +

I love it at the end of the season when it is so close. I hope Sporting does well for you, it must be exciting to be so near and yet so far. Hopefully Arsenal will win, but with fire in their bellies Chelsea may just pull it off. Have you heard of the websites that show live games on your computer. If not, here are a few you could try if you are interested http://www.livefootballonpc.co.uk/index.htm http://www.web-mediaplayer.com/fullpage6/?gopti=01&grpid=148&nums=VGOUKC0*0.0.1010988.1*02 http://www.sopcast.com/player/ http://www.allp2ptv.com/index_en.php

Congrats, Man U won as Vassel missed a penalty. It was a great ending to the game. Van Der Sar was like a man possessed and got booked before the penalty was taken. Vassel kicked the ball right at him, so he was even more possessed when he realised he had saved it. So now we will have to see what happens tomorrow. If Chelsea loose tomorrow Man U will be champions on Wednesday!! Which I know you will be pleased about gifana:)

David beckham missed penalty - David beckham always missed penalties
Hello, gifana,I think it is always not a good thign for a game to be decided in a penalty shootout. It is cruel and full of luck, the winning team may not be better in that game, just because it is a bit luckier than the other, even world class player may also miss the penalty in these situations, the best example is david beckham.

Baggio - Roberto Baggio missed the crucial penalty in 1994 final
I could still remember what happened in the USA world cup final in 1994. It was a hot sunny afternoon in California, the temperature had reached 40 degree celsius, both the brazilian and italian players had suffered from leg cramp, Baggio was also one of them. No goals scored in 120 minutes and the game had to be decided in penalty,Baggio, who had been the hero bringing his team to the final suddenly became a sinner as he missed the crucial penalty and lost the champion to Brazil. May be he is still regret now.

Yeah, a rematch may be a good idea, but it may not be practical if it was in the world cup final?? It seems that it is hard to get a good solution for it.

If Man U don't get through I might just cry! The Chelsea/Liverpool wasn't the most exciting, but it was still a good game, and I'm glad Liverpool got through..as long as they lose to Man U of course..;)

You sure got that right emisle. I'll be pulling for Ronaldo and my neighbor tomorrow night for sure. I almost wish it were the final instead of another semi-final. It would be much more interesting to watch a final with teams for different countries who are not used to each other. I'll have to check to see what the two teams have done this season..I think they tied at least once but can't remember what each of them did in the various English cups. The only thing we can do is hope that the best team (ManUtd) wins. Always nice to see you emisle. +

I just had to come back and say what a TERRIBLE performance Man U gave last night. They just never really got started. If we win the league that will be great, but they just weren't up for the game at all yesterday, and were completely outclassed..:(

You can say that again. I am hoping that what Mourinha has been saying about Ronaldo hasn't affected him so that he will play badly in the EPL....he and Rooney have to get their act together on else. Coming down to the wire is not the best time to be on the decline by any stretch of the imagination. They all have to get their chit together for the next three games or forget about the championship. PS: Have you see the news of the "possible" transfer of Kaká to MU? It all depends on which club has the most money to offer, I'm sure. Always nice to see you. +

It's still going to be difficult for Chelsea to focus on the EPL and the FA with the injuries. Add the fact that there doesn't seem to be much team play in the second half. Seems like they run out of steam too early. The next game will be even harder after playing 120 minutes today. Short time for replenishing their strength. +

I think it will be an extremely good game and I find it hard to pick a winner. Being a ManUtd fan I hope they win but AC Milan also has a good team and Kaká who is considered as good, and to some even better, than Ronaldo. We'll see in about 18 hours at the kickoff. Thanks for stopping by. +

While luck may have something to do with it, we have to take into account that Shevchenko was not playing which may have made a difference. In the paper today I saw that Shevy was telling the people and press that he was/is really injured. I wonder what that was all about. Thanks for stopping by....guess we can say better luck next year. But the Premiership is not lost yet and he still has a chance to make the fans happy however, if Chelsea continues to play like they have been I think there is little chance of his going beyond second place. +
