Found in the Edmonton Sun today: Ninety women on horseback are expected to help raise $35,000 for breast cancer research in Thorsby this Saturday. The 2007 Friends to the Max fundraiser includes a penning event, where teams of women will compete to rustle calves into holding pens as fast as possible. “We’ll all be wearing something pink and getting out there on horses, it’ll be a scream,” said organizing committee member Kris Burkholder, an on-air personality with 630 CHED. Each of the 90 participants paid $150 to compete in the challenge and the funds will all go to the area chapter of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. At least one of the riders is a breast cancer survivor and two others are currently being treated for the disease, Burkholder said. The event will also involve a silent auction for such things as a fly-along with the Edmonton Police Service. Sponsorship donations of over $16,000 for the event will also go to cancer research. The penning event kicks off at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Thorsby Haymaker Arena. Thorsby is 72 kilometres southwest of Edmonton.

That sounds absolutely fantastic. Do you know anyone that will be taking part? Here in Scotland, they organize a run for people, normally woman to do. They all put on decorated bras over their T-shirts. Totally ridiculous ones with lots of pink, glitter and fluff. It is fantastic.

They have lots of runs and the like here, but I thought this was pretty neat especially since Alberta is such an agricultural province and there are a lot of riders in and around Thorsby. I wish I had my horse here and I'd take part. They have the Underwear Affair for cancers below the waist here too, which sounds pretty similar to the run they have in Scotland. :) http://www.uncoverthecure.org/index.html

I actually lived in Alberta for 9 months last year. I arrived there and was meant to travel all across Canada but ended up staying in Banff the whole time and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I never did make it to Edmonton but I did travel all round the sites in Jasper and around. I lived it so much for its wildlife, scenery and agriculture.

Oh that's awesome! I used to live near Banff and Canmore working on a dude ranch a few years ago, and I lived in Jasper for 9 months. I really miss the mountains! You didn't miss much if you didn't come to Edmonton, though. I'm just here for the money! :)
