What steps do we have to take to save our Environment ?

I have a vegetarian and I am sticking to vegetarian diet. I am trying to plant garden in my backyard and trying to grow vegetables and grapes. I am trying to save rain water in buckets during the rainy season so that I can cut down the water bills. In the future I am planning to buy a solar home system, which I cannot afford right now. I think we all should take small small steps in order to save our environment.
