You Dream You've Been Shipwrecked and End Up On a Desert Island....

Desert Island - A desert island in the middle of the ocean.

Believing the dream will come true, what plans would you make, for survival? Who and what would you take with you? The island is going to be far from anywhere, with no passing ships, no requirement for money and you would have to find ways of constructing a shelter, furniture and somewhere to cook food. You'd need to obtain your food through hunting or using the natural vegetation and entertain your "guest(s)" or co-survivors. So, think about it... how would your Survival Kit List read?

Hi Hon, well firstly if I dreamt that I was shipwrecked and it ended up for real, then I would have to take my husband, and youngest daughter with me the reason for this is my husband is very cluey he would know how to hunt for our food and start a fire by rubbing the sticks together, and he would be very good to make a home with coconut leaves, and our daughter knows all about first aid just in case of emergencies and she is very good at making these kind of houses as well.

Wow... how special and talented your family are, Kathy. You wouldn't need any luggage, would you, and it would be so much easier for you to reach the shore, unladen. A lovely thought from you, so I'm giving you a + rating for your love and trust in your husband and daughter. You would surely have a wonderful life together on a desert island. thank you for your response and Brightest Blessings.

I'm surprised that as yet, nobody mentioned writing implements and a bottle. :-) I think that would be my first thought, other than who I'd take with me.

Hmmm, well always supposing that my survival kit survived, and pre supposing that there would be some sort of shelter somewhere on said island. I have already read up about first aid and survival, and I would recommend that EVERYBODY should try to know as much about how to keep themselves alive as possible because whereas you may never be shipwrecked you don't know what other emergencies life can throw at you. If I had the chance to grab a bottle of water I would take that, because there may be no clear water. If I could take one of those gas light things which throws a flame, that would help me to start lighting a fire when I needed to. As many tin boxes with lids of different sizes. I. to try to keep a fire smouldering to conserve the lighting source. 2. to store any food I had. IF I found a stream and IF it were cold, tins could be weighted down and used to preserve foods. 3. to keep pesky animals out. As much sheet type linen as could be grabbed, since this is useful not only for bandages but for food, drying oneself etc. I have a tin at home which has torch and spare batteries, cell phone (OK, OK, useless in this scenario)sticking plasters, antiseptic, tweezers, scissors in three sizes, ointment, sunscreen, and I am building it further. I would certainly take that if I could. I would love to have some books, but probably that would be impossible. I would also choose to be alone, I wouldn't want to put anyone else through that. Hopefully I would manage to survive, it is known to be easier to survive alone since you can concentrate your resources onto yourself and not have to keep making value judgements etc, and try to find some way of producing paper and ink so that I could write. I am now thinking further about this, as it is fascinating and although I thought I was getting prepared, I can see all sorts of holes in the survival box I am already getting ready in real life! Thanks, darkwing, ever one to console in a storm . . . hugs

Wow... did you have the dream, or something, Shelagh? You've really given this response some thought, and I love it! I'm going to give you a + rating for this, as it's very imaginative. I would imagine if it ended up to be a tropical island then a receptacle to catch the rain would be useful. Also, in this environment, I would imagine there would be fresh water streams and pools. Thank you so much for this amazing response and Brightest Blessings. x

A big chest of first aid stuff . Of course if ya get shipwrecked you would have nothing to work with unless ya found parts of the ship to help build a home we could be like the Robinson family. Or like the movie castaway!

I think if you could manage to grab a lifeboat, which you could use to get to and from the island, you would be halfway there. :-) Mind you, you can't take anything for granted. If you couldn't get parts of the ship to shore, then you would have to use sturdy branches for a frame and tropical leaves to kind of thatch cover it. So, certainly a good knife or two would be essential. Thank you for your response Lakota ... have a great day!

All I want to take are:- a nice big knife(helpful in huntin and cuting things), Some antiseptics and general mosquito reppelar creams, some nice pair of shoes which be hard and strong, a nice belt around my waist, and a nice watch. I will also take with me a few match sticks. Actually I have dreamt of this happening to me a lot of times so I have planned that I would atleast take a knife as it will help in huntig and self defence and also some good shoes as they will help keep my feet safe and a nice belt so that I may use it to tie up things strongly or hang on to things when I need to. Moreover I do have some hunting skills and can live on normal jungle food. I will also take a pen and a paper and one bottle, so that I can write notes and send them floating in the sea. I think that a nice flash light would also be quite helpful. Any ways I haven't talked about any rescue helpful things, as I considered that I may have to live their forever. Take Care May GOD Bless YOU

A question... would this nice watch run on batteries??? :-) And the flash light come to that? There's no electricity, so you can't take a charger... would a sun dial and a flame torch not serve you better? At last, somebody has mentioned a bottle and writing implements. There's no telling how long a message in a bottle would take to reach civilisation but it might keep you sane. Thank you for your response... very good ideas there even if some of them rely on power of some sort. Brightest Blessings my friend.

That's the two main items I would think about, MLGB. I think I might have a companion with me as well... male, because they would protect against any encroaching animals, and would be helpful in building a shelter, so somebody close who cares a lot for me. Thank you for your response my friend, and Brightest Blessings.

Believing that the dream will come true, I will seek out the island. I will make sure it would not be deserted anymore if I were to land on it one day. Believing that the dream will come true, I will avoid taking the ship in any travel. I guess that's the best prevention and preparation. It beats preparing and busy myself with it and in the end, it never happen :P

I feel my skills are best suited to sitting on my backside, arrogantly telling others what to do. In that light, I should take the following with me; 1/ A megaphone and deck chair, as I shouldn't like to strain my voice, nor anything else. 2/ A Phoenician shipbuilder. 3/ Anthony Worrall Thompson, as I'd need to eat. 4/ Buffalo Bill, because if ever a man knew how to kill animals, it was he. Amazingly, he never even saw a buffalo in his life, being from the land of bison, but killed thousands of the creatures. Ergo, plenty of meat for AWT to cook. 5/ Bugs Bunny, because he is never without a carrot, so must be a wonderful vegetabl;e tracker. 6/ A Vietnamese Pot-bellied pig, to go truffling, and look really cute. 7/ My partner, Ema, because she's lovely. 8/ Patrick Stewart, to perform both Shakespearean soliloquys and comic sketches. I shouldn't want to get bored. Think I've managed to cover all the bases!

Ohhhhhhhh, is that ALL? ha ha ha ha ha. I love this response, Adren. It's very humorous and all things are covered... it's well thought out, because I DID say if you knew it was going to happen and you've really grabbed the moment and put all your needs together. I think you'd have a whale of a time starting up a whole new community on your desert island. ha ha ha Thank you so much for this quality response Adren. You have posed me with a bit of a problem because now I have to choose best response, rather than have just one in mind. :-) Brightest Blessings my friend and thank you for you input.

Oh blimme, lol my laptop with satellite link up to email for help before I go insane without any shops! Seriously though I wouldn't have a clue, I guess I would take my daughter with me as she is the only person who wouldn't get on my nerves too much. Survival kit would be knife, matches or similar, first aid kit oh and a nice hunky chef to cook the food! Blessed be!
@Darkwing (21583)

You only spend money in shops, Bizzie. I would give them up, if I was you! :-) Your list is short but very useful. That must come from your training and the things you have to carry around with you, and I like the "by the way" addition at the end. A hunky man to whaaaaaaaat??? ha ha ha. Skyclad??? hehe Thank you for your response my friend, and brightest blessings.

I'd need my tent for shelter and a plastic sheet would come in handy. a container for water would be essential too. I'd also take a lighter until I mastered starting fires without one. A knife of some sort would be useful and string would always come in handy I'm sure.
