Shopping Bag or Basket! Shopping Bag - Symbol of Pride to impress or Need?

I often carry my own basket while going to green grocer or grocery shop. But of course while I visit some shopping mall for purchasing some valued articles, I prefer to use the shopping bag provided by the store. It is not due to the fact that I want to show others from where I purchased the things but due to the prevailing customs of purchasing in the Mall ;) I mean it! Is it good to carry your own basket? How often you carry your own basket or bag? Have you ever thought of using shopping bags of big shopping malls to impress others?

I never expect people to be impressed by a carrier bag from a shop, and I've never seen someones shopping bag and been impressed because they shopped in a particular place. I prefer to avoid getting carrier bags when I can, and carry a cotton bag in my handbag that I can unfold and use instead of taking a carrier bag in a shop. it's good for the environment that way.

What I would like to add here is that I have seen people who like snoberry and sometimes they show off their purchasings to make other think about their poorness hmmmm but may be you have never seen the situation. Anyway thanks for response and thanks for being environment friendly too.

I'm sure there are people narrow minded enough to think that someone will see their shopping bag and be impressed. I'm just not someone who would be impressed by the fact someone went to a particular shop.

I don't worry about impressing others. I like to bring my own bags shopping because it reduces waste. If I can reuse a large canvas bag to do my shopping, I am keeping paper or plastic bags out of landfills. Of course, if I get paper bags from the grocery store, I think of ways to reuse them. But I would rather not have them at all. I do it as one small thing I can do to help the environment, and my grocery store give me $0.05 back for every bag I bring of my own on my grocery bill. Not much, but it's something.

I do carry my own basket when I go to the market for grocery Items. I always try to go with my own bahg unless I am going for some real shoping, I mean shoping for clothes and apparals etc. When I go for buying apparals and clothes I prefer the bags provided by the shops and not mine as those bags are very nicely designed and also I have to admit that its more like a symbol of pride to impress than need. Still they come in handy afterwards as well so I try and collect them as they are also strong rather than being just good looking. C Ya Take Care May GOD BLess YOU

In Germany, most people bring their own bags (most I've seen are canvas)and you have to pay for bags at a lot of the stores if you don't have your own. I think they should do that here too. It cuts down on the trash and would save a few trees.

A selfridges bag made it way into my cupboard somehow, meebe it was when my daughter came to stay with me,she lives in London and she is the only one that visits me that I could think of that would have a bag like that, anywhy ever since it has been the bagthat I use to do my shopping, its one that they look at,a serious shoppers bag.So yes it important to me which bag I use,it has to be a decent store label.

Are you talking about the shopping bags you get when you purchase from high-end stores? Well it always is a head-turner when I see a lady holding those bags in her arms. Good thing, I'm a frugal person. I don't find any reason to be jealous of them. But we use our reusable bags whenever we go to the supermarket on weekends. I got them for free at our local supermarket. It is our way of helping save Mother Earth.

As I only go grocery shopping once a week I end up with at least 10 grocery bags (plastic) there is no way I could carry any of it.

I am keen on recycling and don't like to use plastic bags for shopping. I have an old shopping bag made from hessian that I have used for ages now, and for the heavy goods I have a large box in the boot of the car too.

It would be good if we all got into the habit of taking reuseable shopping bags when we shop. It would be good for ecology. I must admit that I seldom think to take my net bag with me when I shop.

I just use whatever bag the store gives me. I try to carry my own bag when I am just buying a few items, but most of the time I just use whatever the store gives me. I do however prefer it when the store uses those shopping bags with handles as opposed to plastic bags. Like when I go to Dillard's or Lane Bryant I like the paper shopping bags with handles for purchases with many items. I think they are just easier to carry. Like at Yankee Candle, they use the paper bags, but if I am buying several candles I like it if they double the bags. I don't really care if anyone is impressed by where I shop. The bags are just for convience to me. If someone is impressed by where I shop, then good for them. I have better things to think about than being impressed by the name on a shopping bag.

Actually, i tend to just use a trolley, since you can get the smaller ones if you don't want a huge one, and it means you don't have to carry the damm basket around the store (they can get heavy even with just a few items in) and of course i always end up buying more than i need so usually the basket is too small anyway! We don't really have individual green grocer or grocer shops these days, just supermarkets.

Hi, it is not common for us to carry our own shopping bag to departmental store. Housewife and shoppers usually get a free plastic to bag our purchase. These plastic bag is commonly recycled to carry trash or other stuff.

Wilkinsons,a local store that sells toiletries and kitchenware etc recently declared that they were not going to stock anymore carrier bags for customers, and they started to sell the shopping bags, the ones that last a lifetime,so at the time I bought three, they were very good value, for a while I forgot to take them to town with me,but then when it became a job to get a bag in certain shops I decided to take them. They now always go with me,and they are very useful, but most certainly not status symbols of any kind lol. When we were in Harrods some years ago hubby asked me if I would like a shopping bag with the Harrods name on it,and I laughed,I have no need for status symbols lol ,I will leave those to the others!

In the U.S. most people do not carry their own shopping bag even when they go to the green grocer. Most places provide bags. When shopping at the mall I think some people like to show off where they have been shopping to impress others.

When I go shopping I have my own shopping trolley for when we have to do a big shopping which is once a week, but when in the actual shops before paying for our shopping I use the shopping trolley that they provide at the shops. No I do not worry about impressing others at the shopping malls.

I normally do not carry my own basket when I go shopping. i would just use whatever bag that will be provided by the stores and I do not feel anything about carrying the bags that show the logo of the stores. It really doesn't matter to me.
