"Newsies" is a Disney film from the Early 90's. It's a live action musical, starring a very young Christian Bale! It's chronicles the real life story of the Newsboys Strike of 1899 in New York City. The newsies are protesting a hike in newspaper price that Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst emposed, causeing the newsboys to pay more for the papers they sold. While it wasn't a commerical success, Newsies has become a cult favorite. Last night my sister and a friend put it on and we watched it for the first time in years...and it was hilarious! It's amazing to see how young Christian Bale was, and it's really funny to think of him as "Batman" singing and dancing around. Are they any other Newsies fans out there? What do you like about the movie?

Oh, I love Newsies. Although my reason for loving it has changed over the years. First I loved it (back when I was around 12 when it came out) because I actually liked the music and thought that a bunch of the boys in it were "dreamy." LOL! Now I enjoy watching it to kinda take a step back from it, pick out all the mistakes, amd laugh with my friends. Back when I was in college, one of the girls in my dorm owned a copy of it on tape and we all would go to the common room to watch it togther. We laughed so hard and had a great time picking our our favorite Newsies from the crowd. It makes me wonder what Christian Bale would say about this role now. Would he be embarassed or just kinda laugh it off as one of his more cheesey early films?

Well.I'm fairly sure that Christan Bale is by far, the "Newsie" who has done the best for himself. I would hope he would have a good sense of humor about it, and just think of it as a stepping stone. ps- Brooklyn!!!!

WOW I havent seen that movie in a really long time. I loved that movie. Then again I love musicals. I am not old I am only 31 and I grew up watching musicals with my mom and when Disney did Newsies I fell in love with it. I would love to see it again and I just might have to hunt it down and but it.

Hi Magikrose! We are around the same age, and both my sister and I grew up watching musicals too. We were able to rent Newsies from Netflix. Not sure if you use that service but they have it if you want to check it out. Be warned though, those songs get in your head! I've been humming "Santa Fe" all morning!

That was probably one of my all time favorite movies. I try and watch it at least once a year. I love musicals and like you it was fun to watch Christian Bale dancing and singing around. He really hasn't changed too much over the year. I still find myself singing along to the songs during the movie. This discussion has made me want to watch the Newsies now. Now where did I put that tape????
