There was talk regarding lowing the voting age in Canada from 18 to 16. Do you think your country should lower the legal voting age?

Right now in BC i belive you can vote federal election when you are 18 but not provincial or municipal till you are 21 so lowering to 16 will not really help anyways because there are less people voting and willing to turn out. there is a certian apathy in Canadian voters becuase wee never really see a true representation in who we elect to ploiticians do nto run to win but to mearly split the vote between opennents and then hope they can sneak in there.

I don't think many teens would turn out to vote.

I really don't think the US should change the voter age.

Thanks Andy. Would you like to expand on that? Why? Should teens not be given the right to vote?

The 26th Amendment lowered the voting age to 18. If I remember right, it was because kids were being drafted and the thinking was if a kid is old enough to go die for his country, they should be allowed to vote. If we lowered the voting age to 16 (or any other age), where would you draw the line? Is there any difference between a 12 year old or a 13 year old or a 16 year old voting? I would even support looking at raising the voting age. Voting is an incredible responsibility. A voter needs to have some maturity level and life experiences before they should have the ability to decide who our representatives are. I don't think a 16 year old has those experiences.

While there are some 16 year olds that can make a conscious decision in an election, I don't think most 16 year old's are mature enough to make their own decisions on who to vote for in an election. I think they would be influenced by their parents or peers. PEACE

To be honest it doesn' matter either way for me. I think 16 year olds can be educated enough to vote so it would not bother me.
