Vacations...what do you do on them?

Okay, so I was talking with someone once, and the person said that on vacation, it's best to do a whole lot such as go to the beach, tour the entire city, stay on the go 24/7 while at the particular locale you are at when on vacation. Then some feel that on a vacation, you should do whatever you want, and that includes sleeping or sight-seeing at a leisurely pace. When you travel, what do you do on your vacations? Are you like the first description I stated or are you like the second? I personally prefer to have the option of doing a lot, or the option of chilling if I need to. Unless the place is somewhere totally exotic, I would not sight-see unless the sights I'm going to see are unique to that place. For instance, if I ever go to where the Taj Mahal is or the Eiffel Tower, I'd sightsee that, but I wouldn't necessarily sight-see a lake or something like that unless it was one of the Great Lakes or 10,000 in Minnesota(Minnesota is called that, right?).

I would like to see some of the sites and stuff but a vacation I think it to chill out. Unless you go to Disney you need a vacation after b/c your trying to see so much at once.

Yeah, somewhere like Disney, you'd be expected to tour all the attractions, but most vacations should be a time for relaxing. Thanks for responding, mflower2053.

I'm with you-I want to be able to go or to chill if I wish or need to. I don't like pressure on vacation. Vacations should be enjoyable-whatever feels good.

I'm glad someone feels the same way. If I wanted my vacation to be a business trip, I'd call it that.

I also like what you like. Sometimes people go with set tours so their time isn't their own. Years ago my family and I went to Australia. It is such a lovely country but the travel was just so tiring. We had to get up at 5am everyday and be prepared to leave by 6 or else the tour bus leaves us. The tour takes the whole day too so we only have night time to do our own exploring. Sometimes we have a spare day. A few weeks ago my friends and I went to Hong Kong for 5 days and it was torturous. We really wanted to maximize the time we were there because it cost so much and we'd probably won't go back there until like, after 10 years. My body ached all over during those 5 days. I think the best thing to do on a vacation is not to sign up for the set tours right away. I think you could join one when you're already at the place and you want to. It's better if you've got control over your time. Self-exploring is really good because you can chill when you get tired and at the same time, you'd know the place better. :)
