Apple blossom

I love the spring with all the different colours of leaf and blossom, and my very favourite is the apple blossom. When I was a child there were nearly 100 orchards close by and provided we were not too greedy the farmers turned a blind eye to the odd little bit of scrumping as we could only reach the lower branches in any case. Most of the orchards have gone now, but when I see an apple tree in bloom I am instantly transported back to that happy time. I am going to buy an apple tree this year, and see if the magic continues to work in my garden. Do you have a favourite tree which has memories and are you going to be able to get one for your garden?

I love spring too, the world is waking up and natures babys are joining us. I got an apple, pear, peach and cherry tree this year and loved seeing the different coloured petals and blossom. The Flowering cherry in the back garden has been beautiful this year but overnight the wind has blown most of the remaining petals away. We used to play on a bit of wasteland with all sorts of fruit trees when I was little so I love them all. The brambles are pretty flowers but I cannnot have them because of the thorns, the kids and the way they take over as I haven't the room. My dads neighbour gave him a Marionberry which is like a bramble without the thorns but after a while we couldn't tell which was which, lol.

Oh yes, you have a lovely selection of fruit to look forward to :-) You can get a thornless blackberry, I am certain, so maybe you will be able to have some of those?

So what grows in your garden. I know you have petunias, but are you able to get a tree to thrive, or is it just to hot for trees?

Hi Shelagh, Yes spring time is a wonderful time of the year, with all the different colours and the apple blossom sure smells wonderful. That is a shame that most of the orchards have gone with these lovely trees. Yes I have a favourite tree and mine is the hibiscius as my grandparents used to have this in their front yard. No I will not be getting one but we have some wonderful Hollyhocks which come in all different colours.

Hibiscus! Now, that is a plant I hear lots about but have never seen or smelt. Are they difficult to grow, do you know? With Other Half in Farmer Giles mode I just might get one if it will grow. I really grieve for the orchards. I KNOW that people need homes, I just don't think they needed to just flatten everything.

Hibiscus is a beautifull plant, but you need to make sure you get a hardy one, some of the more delicate ones come from the West Indies

I haven't really seen any yet, only on pictures, but I am hoping to visit a garden centre and maybe try one of these, as everyone seems to think they are beautiful. Thank you for the note about the hardiness, I shall certainly remember that.
